2020 Toyota Yaris details revealed, estimated price starts at RM 71,688

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new Toyota Yaris hatchback along with its sedan sibling, the 2020 Vios, banged the Thailand shores back in August, but in the local market, these facelifted versions are still awaited. Here we bring a good piece of news for those who have been waiting for the 2020 Toyota Yaris launch in Malaysia. UMW Toyota Motor has officially teased the soon arrival of the new Yaris on its social media account last weekend, followed by revealing its details and estimated pricing, have a look.

So what’s all-new in the 2020 Toyota Yaris?

In terms of design, the refreshed hatchback features a new upfront design that now has a new bumper, triple bezel LED headlamps, and a new lower grille that is downturned and merges with the upper grille. The front spoiler is now finished in black, with just a body colour strip at the base. According to Toyota, the new Yaris took the designing cues from the Corolla and Camry.

Talking about the 2020 Toyota Yaris colour options, Toyota dropped the bright citrus shade, however, red mica, and silver of the earlier palette are still available along with a new platinum white pearl.

Coming to the 2020 Toyota Yaris specifications, the big news lies in the safety section, where the automaker brings Toyota Safety Sense onboard. It includes:

• Pre-collision system: It uses a camera and radar to avoid front collisions and automatically apply brakes when needed.
• Lane departure alert: It alerts the driver when the vehicle moves out of lane unintentionally. 

Other safety features include seven airbags, 3D 360-degree panoramic view monitor, hill-start assist control, vehicle stability control, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and front/rear digital video recorders.

Under the metal sheet, the hatchback houses the same 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder mill that generates 107 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. The engine is coupled with a CVT that sends power to the front wheels.

Toyota has not yet announced the full spec breakdown for the new Yaris but has confirmed the following features, which may or may not be available across the range. 

• 7.0-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support
• Wireless charger
• Auto air-conditioning
• Optitron meter panel with colour multi-info display
• Electrochromic rearview mirror 
• Vehicle Telematic system
