2020 Toyota Yaris: All you need to know
Toyota Malaysia has been teasing the Yaris for quite a while, and now, the automaker has finally announced the B-segment hatchback's arrival and has opened its ordering books as well. Though much is not known about the refreshed Yaris, Toyota Malaysia has shared some essential details to keep the excitement going.
Here’s what we know about the upcoming Yaris -
2020 Toyota Yaris Variants & Price
For the model year 2020, Toyota is offering the Yaris hatch in three trim options - G, E, and J. Though the actual price tags are kept undercover, the automaker has shared estimated figures, which are as follows -
2020 Yaris variants |
Estimated price |
Yaris 1.5G (AT) |
RM 85,587 |
Yaris 1.5E (AT) |
RM 80,591 |
Yaris 1.5J (AT) |
RM 71,688 |
Note, the prices mentioned above are on-the-road without insurance with 2020 sales tax exemption. The said tax exemption is maximum as the new Yaris is CKD locally-assembled at Bukit Raja, Klang.
Further, the GUARAN-T element ensures total peace of mind by offering 5 years of warranty starting from the date of registration with unlimited mileage.
2020 Toyota Yaris Colour Options
The new Yaris hatchback on launch will be available in three colour tones - Red Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl. The previously available Bright Citrus hero tone is no more on offer and will definitely be missed.
2020 Toyota Yaris Exterior Design
Toyota has given the Yaris hatch a considerable facelift and not just for namesake. At the front, it gets a big-black front bumper with the grille and lower intake merged into a single unit. The sleek grille with chrome trim disappears in the headlamps that get triple bezel LED units and follow-me-home function. Unlike the previous model, the LED headlamps are now offered as a standard fitment.
The side profile features chrome door handles, sharp contour line running from the front fender to rear door, two-tone side skirts, and a black lip. The latter two are part of the car’s aero kit package.
The rear features an edgy look with elements like the roof spoiler, bumper with black-trim, and bulging-out tail lamps.
Overall, the new Yaris hatch portrays an aggressive face that at times seems to be inspired from the Camry and Corolla.
2020 Toyota Yaris Interior
Toyota has kept most of the cabin details a secret, for now. However, seeing the previous model and the info we have on the upcoming Yaris, we are pretty sure it would be good quality, comforting package with several convenient features. What we do know for sure is the car’s connectivity kit - the CONNECTIVI-T. Included in the package is a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto-ready connectivity, new 6.8-inch HU, wireless charger, and Vehicle Telematics System.
Also, part of the interior 360-T PLUS package includes automatic air-conditioning system, Optitron meter with a multi-info display, and an electrochromic rearview mirror.
2020 Toyota Yaris Engine
Though Toyota has not shared new Yaris engine details, however, going by the variant names, there seems to be no change in its under the hood configurations. All three Yaris trims - J, E, and G, will be powered by a 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i mill that in the previous model makes a maximum power of 107 PS and a peak torque of 140 Nm. In the ongoing Yaris, the said mill is paired to a CVT with a seven-speed Shiftmatic mode. The car will be offered with two drive modes - Eco and Sport, that can be changed easily via an ergonomically placed switch.
2020 Toyota Yaris Safety
One of the key highlights of the upcoming Toyota Yaris is the inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite that includes -
Pre-Collision System (PCS) - it works at 15 kmph and uses a camera and radar to warn and enable autonomous emergency braking
Lane Departure Alert (LDA) - via a visual alert in multi-info display and beeping sound, the LDA helps avoid unintended lane change. It works from 50 kmph and can be turned off
Other safety features that are part of the Yaris safety kit are Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), 3D 360-degree panoramic view monitor, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, hill-start assist, and front & rear digital video recorders. Though there is no mention of airbags by Toyota, however, going by the standards, we expect seven-airbags as seen in the ongoing model.
Conclusion
Compared to the ongoing model the all-new 2020 Toyota Yaris seems like an aggressive car with a lot to offer on the feature and safety front. We hope Toyota Malaysia launches the B-segment hatch soon and we not only get to know the Yaris better but also go behind its wheels.
