2020 Renault Koleos - Top features
After teasing us with glimpses of it at the end of October this year, Renault Malaysia finally launched the all-new Koleos. Available for purchase via TC Euro Cars, the latest avatar of the French automaker’s popular crossover family SUV comes packing a lot of goodies. Going up against cars like the Citroen DS7 Crossback and Peugeot 3008 Plus, the 2020 Renault Koleos isn’t going to have it easy.
First introduced at the Beijing Motor Show in 2016, the second generation of the Koleos garnered much attention from both the press and audiences alike. Compared to its predecessor, the 2020 Koleos boasts a more modern styling, improved safety technology, and higher occupant comfort among other tangibles.
If the new Renault Koleos has piqued your interest, you might want to familiarise yourself with some of its basic specs. So let’s start by listing some of this crossover’s essentials first. In terms of its dimensions, the Koleos stretches 4,672 mm in length, 1,843 mm in width, and stands 1,678 mm at the roof.
2020 Renault Koleos engine and transmission:
Engine | 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder with DOHC |
Transmission | X-Tronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) |
Power | 169 hp at 6,000 rpm |
Torque | 226 Nm at 4,400 rpm |
Claimed Fuel Economy | 12.3 kmpl |
With the basics out of the way, let’s now focus on what most prospective buyers would turn their attention towards while sifting through the brochure once at the showroom - features. As one can imagine, no matter how good a car might be, it is its features list that captivates most people. With that being said, here are some of the top features of the 2020 Renault Koleos.
1. LED headlamps
The 2020 Renault Koleos is equipped with modern LED headlamps. These bright yet efficient units are not only really effective once the sun dips below the horizon, but in the new Koleos, they come on automatically if it is dark enough outside.
Called ‘Pure Vision’ technology by Renault, these LED headlamps are also accompanied by stylish LED daytime-running lamps (DRLs) and stay on for a particular duration after you leave the vehicle -- the so-called ‘see me home’ function.
2. Panoramic sunroof
Buyers in this segment appreciate the addition of a sunroof -- even more so if it is a fancy panoramic one, which is exactly what the Signature variant of the 2020 Renault Koleos comes with. The electrically-operated glass panel is equipped with a tilt,
slide and anti-pinch mechanisms - the latter being a safety feature.
Due to its sheer expanse, the panoramic roof in the Koleos helps bring in a lot more natural light from the outside, plus it also makes the cabin feel more airy, spacious and accommodating.
3. Cooled cup holders
Cup holders are one of the most essential but rarely considered fitments in any car. However, buyers of the new Koleos would definitely appreciate its front cup holders quite a bit - considering it can be cooled with the push of a button.
The cooling feature, whilst not the most demanded of features, means that one can surely keep his or her drinks cool enough to be relished on the go, so as to enjoy them during our hot summer months. Nice touch, Renault.
4. Modern instrument cluster
Unlike several cars in this segment, the all-new Renault Koleos specs sheet comes fitted with a unique digital instrument display in the centre of the whole cluster. The full-colour TFT display makes it easy for the driver to read the gauges without being overloaded by information.
To make it more interesting, Renault has added customisable options for the centre display as well. While it may not be the most high-definition of screens out there, it gets sufficiently bright during the day.
5. Large infotainment display
The 2020 Renault Koleos specs sheet features a large, high-definition infotainment head unit that measures 8.7-inches. The capacitive screen sports a portrait orientation and is powered by the marque’s in-house R-Link 2 infotainment system.
The updated display means that drivers can customise it to their liking, with options to personalise the home screen as well. The infotainment system also supports voice commands, and integrates handy features like two-finger zooming and page scrolling to make the system more user-friendly.
The R-Link system boasts live navigation along with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Moreover, one can use its Bluetooth connectivity for both audio streaming and for making/receiving calls.
6. Modern safety equipment
Renault has fitted the all-new Koleos with several safety nannies to ensure optimum occupant protection. For starters, the crossover sports six airbags (front, front side and curtain), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and seatbelts with pretensioners & load limiters.
On top of all that,
the 2020 Koleos also gets the usual stuff such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). Finally, the new Koleos ropes in stuff like all-around parking sensors with a rearview camera, ISOFIX anchor points, and front fog lamps with cornering function.
