2020 Nissan Almera Turbo - Is it worth the sticker price?
Finally, Nissan's official distributor in the country, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) announced the 2020 Almera's complete price list.
Nissan's latest sedan was introduced back in September with the automaker revealing its full specifications during a special preview event. The order books for the car were also opened soon after along with several showcasing done at Nissan's showroom nationwide.
Now, with the price figures out, prospective owners might be hit with the dilemma of its worth. This can be solved by spreading the new Almera's features, specs, and other details first and then comparing it to the asking price.
But before that let's check out 2020 Nissan Almera variants and price details.

2020 Nissan Almera powerplant
All the new Almera trims are powered by the same 999cc in-line three-cylinder, DOHC, 12-valves turbo engine making a maximum power of 100 PS at 5,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 152 Nm from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm. This mill is coupled to an X-Tronic CVT with D-Step Logic and Sport Mode that sends power to the front wheels and calls for constant acceleration along with remarkable fuel efficiency. Further, the Sport Mode holds the gear longer for better performance and acceleration and a sporty drive.
The automaker has claimed combined fuel efficiency of 18.4 kmpl (range up to 650 km) which we think is a good figure for a sedan of its size and stature.
2020 Nissan Almera standard features
The best judgment of a car's price worth comes from its standard offering. On the outside, the 2020 Almera turbo gets LED taillights and LED rear fog lamps, a power-folding side mirror, body-coloured rear diffuser, and an in-glass radio antenna.
Open the gates and the sedan will greet you with its Zero Gravity-inspired seats, tilt/telescopic steering wheel adjustment, keyless entry and push-start ignition, gear knob with a faux carbon-fibre pattern, multi-functional steering wheel with audio control, 60:40 split foldable rear seat, and three USB ports.
On the safety side, all the Almera Turbo trims get two airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, hill start assist, traction control, and two rear ISOFIX points. Besides, the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Vehicle Dynamic Control, and Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking add to the sedan's strong safety shield.
2020 Nissan Almera variant specific inclusions
Lighting: The Almera VL and VLP come with auto on/off halogen headlamps, halogen daytime running lights, and fog lamps. The range-topping VLT, on the other hand, benefit from LED lighting all-over
Wheels: While the base trim rolls on 15-inch units covered in 195/65 profile tyres, the VLP & VLT models come fitted with 16-inch wheels wrapped with 205/55 rubbers
Others: The VLT model features a gloss-black trunk lid spoiler and unique wheel designs
Cabin inclusions: The entry-level VL trim gets semi-bucket seats at the front finished in fabric with grey accents, urethane steering wheel, manual air-con system, Bluetooth and AUX connectivity, and a four-speaker audio system with radio/USB inputs
The Almera VLP kit takes a step further on the comfort and connectivity side. It gets leather upholstery, dual-tone dashboard with soft-touch instrument panel cover, auto air-con system, six-speaker Nissan Connect Infotainment system with an 8-inch touch display with Apple CarPlay support, and 7-inch colour digital instrument display. Also, it gets a rear-camera and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The variant leading, VLT model features the same spec list as the VLP trim with a few additions on the driver assistance front like cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, and blind-spot warning.
Safety: While most of the safety features are shared across the Almera sedan range, the VLP and VLT get six airbags (front, side, and curtain).
Conclusion
At RM 83,888 (RM 79,906, SST exempted) the base VL trim offers a reasonably fair feature kit. However, it's the common safety kit that has impressed us the most. The remaining two 2020 Almera variants, VLP and VLT are 6k apart from each other and likewise benefit from a few added features.
