2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer teased again, to debut on September 3
KUALA LUMPUR: Last Friday, Jeep teased its upcoming SUV Grand Wagoneer, thus continuing its weekly marketing affair. However, there is another reason for our happiness, and that’s the confirmed arrival of the long-awaited Jeep SUV. The teaser image was accompanied by a simple and straightforward message reading - ‘Coming September 3’.
Coming back to the automaker’s flagship model teaser, frankly speaking, it’s no different from what we have witnessed before, i.e., tiny glimpse of a part. This time we get to see two separate parts - a portion of the SUVs front grille and a rotary dial on the inside.
Talking about the grille first, it’s divided into two sections and showcases heavy chrome-work. At the top, we see a few letters - WAG that obviously stands for Wagoneer. However, is it just Wagoneer, or is it going to read Grand Wagoneer is the question? Now, if the latter is the case, then the badging would start from the letter ‘G’, leading to three-scenarios - Grand could sit above the word Wagoneer, or the font-size or spacing could be adjusted to fit ‘Grand’. There is another possibility as well; the company could altogether omit the word ‘Grand’ from the exterior badging. If anything, all this shows just how little we know about Jeep’s upcoming models.
Coming to the second teaser image, we see a rotary dial that features a knurled grip and a ramp-like element with metallic trim on the centre console. Though not specified, this rotary dial could be for any electronic system like for selecting drive mode, transmission, or an AUX infotainment knob.
The Grand Wagoneer is expected to be pretty luxurious, with its price going as high as $100,000 all loaded up. As for the standard Jeep Wagoneer, it won’t be that blingy as the ‘Grand’ version. Both the models will likely ride on the tried and tested Ram 1500 chassis, and in the future, a plug-in hybrid trim is also on the cards.
The new Jeep Wagoneer models will enter the production phase in the second quarter of 2021, with the sales commencing later that year. Once launched, the Jeep flagship SUV will go against Yukon XL, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon.
