2019 Toyota Avanza ready for launch in Malaysia: What’s in stock?
It has now been confirmed. Soon enough, the all-new 2019 Toyota Avanza will be officially launched in Malaysia. Toyota’s compact MPV now boasts a comprehensive facelift, especially up front where it seems to resemble the larger and pricier Vellfire. Look closely, and you might even find some styling cues borrowed straight from the Veloz sold in Indonesia. Check out what all the new Avanza brings on the table.
2019 Toyota Avanza pricing detail
As for the new Avanza itself, the base 1.5 E variant will be priced at RM 80,888, the mid-level 1.5S at RM 83,888, and the fully-loaded 1.5S+ trim will set you back by RM 87,888.
New Avanza performance specs
The three-row, seven-seat Avanza is powered by Toyota’s 2NR-VE series of petrol engines. In the 2019 Avanza, this 1.5-litre four-popper kicks out 102 hp at 6,000 rpm and 136 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It’s connected to a good ol’ fashioned 4-speed automatic transmission and drives the rear wheels. This translates to a 0-100 kmph time of 13.5 seconds, top speed of 180 kmph, and a combined fuel consumption figure of around 13 kmpl.
All-new Toyota Avanza revised styling
The facelift has injected some much-needed dose of enthusiasm into the Toyota Avanza. The front now features a more aggressive design language. One of the most striking aspects is the full-LED headlamps which are now bifurcated by a piece of trim. This plastic strip begins at the upper grille and passes into and through the headlamps. The top part of the front grille is finished off in glossy black and has the Toyota logo in the centre. The large bumper looks sporty and houses the lower grille/air dam. The sculpted bumper incorporates a lower lip extension, and the recessed foglamp housing is tucked neatly into the sides.
The side profile doesn’t witness too many changes, with one of them being the new and more streamlined wing mirrors with turn indicators. Other design elements include sporty side skirts, 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, shark fin antenna, and vivid wheel arch extensions. Around the back, there’s a new roof spoiler, slightly redone taillights with thick chrome bar and red reflector lens in between the two units, and a sporty-looking rear bumper with faux rear-vent cut-outs.
New equipment onboard 2019 Avanza
In regards to the equipment list and features of the 2019 Toyota Avanza, all trim levels come with LED headlamps, front foglights, electrically-adjustable wing mirrors, rear roof spoiler, remote keyless entry, automatic AC with rear vents, split-folding second & third-row seats, and fabric upholstery. Meanwhile, higher variants further add power-retractable wing mirrors, dual-tone alloy wheel design, chrome inner door handles, and a multifunction steering wheel. There’s also a six-speaker audio rig, multi-information driver’s display, 6.75-inch touch-multimedia head unit with voice recognition, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and support for Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. On top of these, the top-spec 1.5S+ variant of the new Avanza also adds a front-facing digital video recorder and a reversing camera. This variant can also be fitted with a roof-mounted monitor, plus all three variants can be optioned with premium security and solar film.
Next-gen Avanza strong safety kit
Some of the standard safety gear that’s available in all three trims of the 2019 Toyota Avanza includes dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), reverse parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchor points. Furthermore, the top-of-the-range 1.5S+ variant also adds blind-spot monitoring (BSM) and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) to the list mentioned above. However, it seems that none of the variants of the 2019 Toyota Avanza get electronic stability or traction control programmes, and even the top trim only comes with two airbags.
