2019 Avanza showcased at Toyota’s dealership

KUALA LUMPUR: Time and again, we have been telling you that Toyota Malaysia will soon launch the all-new 2019 Avanza in the country. The brand also updated its official website and has now replaced the old model with the upcoming Avanza. Until now we have only seen the new Avanza on screen, but recently the automaker displayed the two models at its Seksyen 19, Petaling Jaya showroom.

As already mentioned in the 2019 Toyota Avanza ‘What’s in stock?’ story, the car would be available in total three trim options - 1.5E, 1.5S, and 1.5S+. However, at the concerned showcasing were only present two out of three Avanza variants. It was the range-topping 1.5 S+ trim that missed the show.

The new Avanza is a lot different from the old MPV, and that is very much evident from the comparison we have done. All the Avanza trims are now powered the same engine unit that’s also found under the Rush and Perodua Myvi. We are talking about the 2NR-VE 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder mill that churns out 105 PS at 6000 rpm and 136 Nm at 4200 rpm. The 5-speed manual gearbox is now replaced by a new four-speed automatic unit that is assigned to send power to the rear wheels.

The exterior of the 2019 Avanza features a new front bumper, Veloz-inspired lower apron, multi-slate intake, revised fog lamps sections, redesigned taillights with red reflectors (in 1.5S and 1.5S+), 15-inch alloy wheels with 185/65 tyres. Also, included in the standard equipment list are - bi-LED headlamps, shark fin antenna, and roof spoiler. The base trim misses out on chrome and red garnish on the tailgate and retractable electronic side mirrors.

The cabin features a double-DIN head unit with a 6.75-inch display that comes as a standard option in 1.5S+ variant. The base trim is equipped with standard analog gauges and a normal urethane steering.

The safety kit includes standard fitments like two airbags, ISOFIX, ABS with EBD. The top model gets rear-cross traffic alert and blind spot monitor.
