2019 Perodua Axia - Variants explained
Countless Malaysians had been waiting for Perodua to launch the all-new 2019 Axia. Regarded as one of the best and most popular cars in its class, the Perodua Axia made it to the hearts and souls of many first would-be car buyers when it entered the playing field back in 2014.
Over the years, the Malaysian auto major kept refreshing their star player to keep it relevant and competitive. One of the first facelifts came about in 2017, and it upped the ante for this rather small A-segment hatchback. Fast-forward the clock to August of this year, and prospective buyers could finally walk into a Perodua showroom and book the new 2019 Axia.
However, the hotly-anticipated hatchback finally went live just a few days ago as the latest iteration of one the best-selling cars in the country was now up for grabs. The 2019 Perodua Axia has to fend off rivals from all over, including the new facelifted Proton Saga and the chic-looking Kia Picanto.
So, let’s begin and explain to you some of the basics. First and foremost, however, let’s get the prices out of the way…
Detailed 2019 Axia price:
E MT (Solid) - RM 24,090 E MT (Metallic) - RM 24,090 |
G AT (Solid) - RM 33,490 G AT (Metallic) - RM 33,490 |
GXTRA AT (Solid) - RM 34,990 GXTRA AT (Metallic) - RM 34,990 |
STYLE AT (Solid) - RM 38,890 STYLE AT (Metallic) - RM 38,890 |
SE AT (Solid) - RM 38,890 SE AT (Metallic) - RM 38,890 |
AV AT (Solid) - RM 43,190 AV AT (Metallic) - RM 43,190 |
The 2019 Perodua Axia has been made available in six different variants. New Axia price range from RM 24,090 to RM 43,190. As is evident, Perodua has priced the latest iteration of its most affordable car very practically. Customers of the all-new Axia will also get a 5-year/150,000-kilometre (whichever comes first) comprehensive warranty. Next up, let’s list some of the most basic physical attributes of the 2019 Axia.
New Axia dimensions:
Measurements | 2019 Perodua Axia |
Length | 3,645 mm |
Width | 1,620 mm |
Height | 1,510 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,455 mm |
Boot Capacity | 260 litres |
The only real exception to the numbers mentioned above is the Style variant of the 2019 Perodua Axia. Save for the wheelbase and boot capacity, the Axia Style is 5 mm longer (3,650 mm), 5 mm wider (1,625 mm) and 15 mm taller (1,525 mm) -- the latter is down to the Style variant’s larger 15-inch wheels, thicker tyres, and faux roof rails.
2019 Perodua Axia engine and transmission:
Engine | 1.0-litre, naturally-aspirated three-cylinder with DOHC, EFI and VVT-i |
Transmission | 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission |
Power | 67 hp at 6,000 rpm |
Torque | 91 Nm at 4,400 rpm |
Claimed Fuel Economy | 22.5 kmpl (MT)/21.6 kmpl (AT) & 20.8 kmpl (Style AT) |
When it comes to matters under the bonnet, the 2019 Perodua Axia specs remains vastly unchanged over its predecessor. The hatchback is still powered by the tried & tested 1.0-litre three-popper that develops an admittedly modest 67 horsepower, with a torque figure which peaks at just 91 Nm. In comparison, cars with a similar price tag like the Proton Saga come equipped with a 1.3-litre engine that puts out 94 hp and 120 Nm.
Just as before, the all-new Axia can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox (in the base variant) or a 4-speed torque converter unit. If fuel economy is a deciding factor, the 2019 Axia continues to be one of the most frugal vehicles ever to hit our roads. No wonder it boasts the brand’s coveted Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) title.
The manual variant of the 2019 Perodua Axia can achieve a mighty 22.5 kmpl, with the automatic models registering figures of 21.6 kmpl and 20.8 kmpl (for the Style trim). If you are wondering why the Axia Style returns the lowest range per litre of fuel consumed, that’s down to its increased bulk, drag-inducing exterior styling (you can blame the SUV-inspired looks for that), and the inclusion of bigger tyres. Of course, in spite of that, the 2019 Axia Style not only looks quite fancy, but its actual fuel consumption will never approach anything as high as that of any SUV (crossover or otherwise).
2019 Perodua Axia variants detailed:
1. Axia E MT
Coming in at RM 24,090, the entry-level of the all-new Axia is the E trim with a traditional floor-mounted stick shift. This bare-bones variant of the 2019 Axia is aimed at buyers who want nothing more than the most basic of features combined with excellent fuel economy and a simplistic transportation solution.
As you can imagine, at around 24,000 ringgit, the Axia E variant comes equipped with just the bare necessities on the outside. The most obvious of these include the following:
- Projector halogen headlamps
- 14-inch steel wheels without hub caps
- LED combination tail lamps
- Manually-adjustable wing mirrors
On the inside as well, this trend of keeping away of clutter continues with gusto. The 2019 Axia E variant’s interior comes with just the following items:
- Regular fabric seat upholstery
- 4-way manually-adjustable driver’s seat
- Two cup holders and four bottle holders
- Power windows
- Power steering
- Floor mats
When it comes to matters regarding the 2019 Axia E’s safety equipment, there isn’t much to talk about. It sorely lacks in this department, though one could argue that that’s because of its low price point. To put it into context, the entry-level Proton Saga costs nearly 9,000 ringgit more but does come with more nannies. As for the entry-level variant of the 2019 Perodua Axia, it gets only the following:
- Dual front airbags
- Seat belt reminder
- ISOFIX rear seat anchor points

- Red trim on the front grille
- Dual-tone side skirts
The interior of the 2019 Axia SE gets two add-ons over the Style variant:
