2019 Nissan Grand Livina: Changes explained
Nissan Malaysia has been catering to the needs of the 7-seater MPV with its Grand Livina for many years now. Even though capable, no doubt that this car has aged with time and looks outdated. We used to wonder when would we see an updated version of this MPV. And now it’s here. The all-new 2019 Nissan Grand Livina made its global debut in Indonesia. It is a major upgrade over its predecessor, but it isn’t really ‘all-new’ if you look at it as a whole. Read on to find out why is that and also to know what are the changes in the new car.
Exterior style
You see, Nissan has got a big stake in Mitsubishi Motors, and both the brands are members of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. So there is sharing going on. This is why the new Livina looks very much similar to the Mitsubishi Xpander. Of course, there are a few changes to make prominent that this is a car from Nissan.
The front end of the 2019 Nissan Grand Livina features Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design. However, the chrome grille has been given away by a more Nissan-like grille that follows the brand’s V-Motion design language. The remaining portion is more or less similar to that of the Xpander. We get a pair of sleek LED daytime running lights located above the main headlamps. The latter has been moved to find their place in the front bumper. The bumper also houses fog lamps which aren’t round in shape; another minor difference between the new Lavina and Xpander.
The side profile of the 2019 Grand Livina is again a familiar sight. Unlike the Xpander, the front wheel arches have been rounded off. We also get to see chrome on the door handles and a bit on the window sills as well. There is also a floating roof-like design at the rear to enhance the overall appearance of the MPV. The rear end of the upcoming Grand Livina gets a pair of striking-looking tail lights that come with a signature outward pointing boomerang design. The tailgate gets more black treatment. There is also a two-piece silver diffuser at the rear which looks very sporty. It is similar to what we’ve seen on the Nissan X-Trail. Another sporty element at the back is the roof-mounted spoiler with brake light.
Interior elements
The interior of the new Grand Livina has got a black theme with some silver accent here and there. It is a good place to be in. For the entertainment needs, Nissan has included a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation, and Easy Link smartphone connectivity that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As far as the cabin space is concerned, there is plenty of space for every occupant.
The three-spoke steering wheel gets silver accents and mounted controls. It is also tilt and telescopically adjustable. There is a 12V outlet for each row and a good number of cubby storage spaces. The instrument cluster here is pretty basic but gets a multi-info color display to spice things a bit. We also get a reverse camera. These are some decent features which we were expecting to be included in the new Livina. However, they might be available depending on the variant of the car.
Engine options
The current generation Nissan Grand Livina specs have got a couple of engine options - 1.6-litre with 105 PS and 150 Nm mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox, and a 1.8-litre engine which produces 126 PS and 174 Nm and comes only with the automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Xpander comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 103 hp of max power and 141 Nm of peak torque on tap. This is the same engine that Nissan has used in the 2019 Livina. It will be available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic unit.
Safety features
Just like the other features, chances are the safety features will also be distributed as per the variant. However, certain features come as standard across the board. These include dual front airbags and ABS with EBD. Other safety features like brake assist and vehicle dynamic control are limited to the higher-end models.
So, these were some of the changes that have been done in the 2019 Nissan Livina. We will be covering all the latest updates regarding this new Nissan MPV like pricing, variant details, and launch date, so stay tuned for that. As far as the current model is concerned, it comes at a starting price of RM 82,195 and is available in three variants and 4 different colors - Bronze Gold, Brilliant White, Tungsten Silver, and Diamond Black.
