The year 2024 was quite eventful for performance enthusiasts, as an array of high-speed machines launched during the twelve months. Surprisingly, the list of the fastest cars does not include the usual flashy sports cars powered by mighty V8 engines but also electric and hybrid models that are breaking records in their own way.
Let’s check out the top 7 fastest cars in terms of acceleration, unveiled globally in 2024 -
Porsche Taycan Turbo GT
Globally revealed in March 2024, the Taycan Turbo GT is Porsche’s fastest car ever. It is an all-electric sedan, powered by an all-wheel-drive powertrain generating a whooping power of 789 PS and a peak torque of 1,340 Nm. The power goes up to 1033 PS with the launch control engaged.
The Taycan Turbo GT runs from zero to 100 kmph in 2.3 seconds only (2.2 seconds with the Weissach package) and zero to 200 kmph in 6.6 seconds (6.4 seconds with the Weissach package). The top speed is rated at 290 kmph. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is equipped with a 97 kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of 528 – 554 km (on the WLTP cycle).
This track-focused EV is offered in Malaysia at a whopping RM 1.16 million, which is RM 100,000 dearer than the already-potent Turbo S. The latter can reach 100 kmph in 2.4 seconds and 200 kmph in 7.7 seconds.
McLaren 750S
As an upgraded version of the 720S, the 750S hit the global roads in 2024. It is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine kicking out a maximum power of 750 PS and a peak torque of 800 Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission, enabling the vehicle to hit the century sprint in 2.8 seconds.
The McLaren 750S clocks the 200 kmph mark in 7.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 332 kmph. It is the brand’s lightest production car, tipping the scales at 1277 kg, significantly lighter (30 kg) than the 720S.

This petrol-hybrid model is powered by a 3.6-litre six-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine, a gearbox-mounted electric motor, a liquid-cooled 1.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Together, the setup dishes out a total output of 541 PS and 610 Nm.
The 911 Carrera 4 GTS completes the century sprint in 3 seconds and hits the 200 kmph in 10.5 seconds. The top speed is rated at 312 kmph.
Porsche Macan Turbo Electric
Another Porsche EV earning its spot in the fastest cars list is the Macan Turbo Electric. Introduced in January 2024, the Macan EV is built on the PPE platform, co-developed with Audi.
It is powered by dual permanent synchronous motors, which deliver 639 PS of maximum power and 1,130 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a single-speed gearbox (on both axles), enabling the EV to run from a standstill to 100 kmph in 3.3 seconds (with the launch control). The EV takes 11.7 seconds to reach 200 kmph and maxes out at 260 kmph.
The Macan Turbo comes equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack, which provides a WLTP range of 558-630 km. It underpins 800-volt electrical architecture supporting up to 270 kW of DC charging.
The Porsche Macan Turbo was launched in Malaysia in November of this year and cost RM 635,000. Included in the price is an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty, which can be extended up to 15 years through Porsche Malaysia.
