Proton X70 vs Haval H2 - Everything that impacts your buying decision
Today we are comparing the two SUVs. One that was launched a couple of years ago on the Malaysian shores while the other is fairly new. We are talking about the Haval H2 and Proton X70.
Is the new Proton X70 capable enough to cut down the sales of the Haval H2 or is it the other way around?
Let’s find out in the following sections as we put these SUVs against each other comparing them on different aspects like design, performance, safety, convenience, features and more.
Design
Although a subjective aspect considering the looks of both the SUVs, the Proton X70 has a sharper appeal than the H2. The ‘infinite weave’ pattern on the X70’s front grille is bolder and the LED headlamps flanked on the sides are edged nicely to complement the overall front profile. The cuts lower down the bumper, the radiator grille and bonnet contours on the X70 give a knife-life look which is not the case with Haval H2.
Talking about the dimensions, the X70 is 184 mm longer and 17 mm wider than the H2, measuring 4519 mm in length and 1831 mm in width. It also sports 110 mm longer wheelbase of 2670 mm than H2’s 2560mm.
Standard offerings
The most affordable version of the X70 comes with features like halogen headlamps, 17-inch alloys, fabric seats, rearview camera, air purifier system, and an 8-inch Android-powered Geely Smart Infotainment System (GKUI) with music streaming, navigation and voice command functionality and support. Additionally, there are features like dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry/exit, and push start button. The 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill Descent Control (HDC) are also offered as standard.
While talking about the Haval H2 specs, the standard equipment consists of halogen headlamps with DRLs, front and rear fog lamps, 3.5-inch TFT trip computer, keyless entry and push start button, reverse sensor, leather steering wheel, adjustable centre armrest, and anti-theft system. Moreover, it gets dual SRS airbags, Electronic Power Brake (EPB), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Collision Fuel Off System.
Premium features
Other than the standard variant, the Proton X70 specs sheet shows two advance trims- Executive and Premium. They append the standard features list with advanced elements like LED headlamps with DRLs, leatherette and Nappa leather seat options, driver and front passenger power seats, 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, auto wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror and 18-inch alloy wheels. Adding on top of everything are safety features like Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (which has Intelligent High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, Door Opening Warning System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
The two more variants of the H2 are the Comfort and the Premium. They get added features like a sunroof, cargo curtain, auto headlamps, leather seats, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, six-way adjustable driver seat, dual-zone auto air conditioning, 6 airbags, reverse camera with guidelines, Blind Spot Visual System and Follow-Me-Home lighting. For better sound quality, two high tone speakers also make way to the high-end X70 variants, making the total count of speakers from four to six.
Performance
The Proton X70 is powered by the four-cylinder, TGDi turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol engine that holds the potential to pump out a maximum power of 183.5 PS and a peak torque of 285 Nm at 1,700-4,400 rpm, mated to a 6-speed torque converter auto transmission that benefits from the manual mode.
