2024 Volvo C40 launched in Malaysia; here’s all you need to know

It was only a few days ago that Volvo Cars Malaysia launched the all-new C40 in Malaysia and the timing couldn’t be better. Malaysia is already expressing a flood of electric vehicles in the form of the following -

Coming back to the 2024 Volvo C40, the refreshed coupe-style electric SUV brings plenty to the table, especially when it comes to the EV range.

Before getting to know the electric SUV in detail, let us first discuss the latest revisions.

2024 Volvo C40: Major updates

Enlarged battery pack: Volvo has now introduced a larger battery pack which results in a higher range. Gone from 78 to 82 kWh, the figure might not seem significant at first but overall it results in more efficient cooling, enough to bump up the range notably.

Enhanced range: Thanks to the enlarged battery pack, the EV offers an additional range of 100 km, taking the total range to 550 km which is much more competitive as per market standards.

Fast charging: The new Volvo C40 now supports up to 200 kW of DC fast charging power. Thus resulting in a similar charge time of 28 minutes from 10 to 80% SoC despite the bigger battery.

Reconfigured powertrain: The revised model showcases a reconfigured powertrain which now showcases a less powerful front motor (159 PS) and a more powerful rear motor (249 PS). Earlier the EV showcased 204 PS producing motors at both ends.

Better handling: In its new avatar the EV provides a more pleasing rear-biased handling balance which adds up to the user's overall driving experience.

Additional features: The car’s spec sheet now includes new exterior elements like 19-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels, new Vapour Grey paint, and matrix LED projector headlights with an adaptive high beam function.

2024 Volvo C40: Key details

Price: Despite all the additions, VCM has maintained the C40 Recharge’s price the same as before i.e., RM 288,888 (on-the-road without insurance). Part of every purchase is a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, an eight-year/160,000-km battery warranty, a five-year/100,000 km free service package, and five years of roadside assistance.

Dimensions: The pure electric crossover showcases a stunning exterior which apart from featuring smart elements showcases impressive dimensions.

Powertrain setup: The electric crossover is powered by a twin motor setup with an all-wheel driveline and automatic transmission. The unit pumps out a maximum power output of 408 hp along with a peak torque of 670 Nm.

Performance: The above-mentioned setup allows the EV to complete a century sprint in just 4.7 seconds and attain a top speed of 180 kmph (which has been fixed by Volvo). The car's 82 kW battery pack allows the C40 an electric range of 550 km.

Cabin comfort: The Volvo C40 can accommodate five occupants each benefiting from an ergonomically designed seat. The front seats are easily adjustable making it easy for the passenger to find the perfect seating position. As for the rear seat, they are easy to fold individually into the load area floor, allowing the owner to transport cargo without compromising on comfort and safety.

Sustainable interior: C40 Recharge’s interior has been created without the use of any leather and is a living expression of responsible luxury. Also, it is available with partially recycled upholstery and carpets.

Fixed panoramic roof: This one is a standard fixture with laminated, tinted glass that provides effective protection from glare and UV radiation. It also helps to create an airy, more natural environment in the cabin, maintain a comfortable temperature, and contribute to a silent ride.

Boot Storage: The EV offers enough load compartment space; with the rear seats up there is space for two suitcases (750 mm long, 520 mm wide, and 310 mm tall) below the load cover. The load compartment space boosts up to 1,205-liter by folding down the rear seat making storing larger items easy.

Front storage: The Volvo C40 comes with a convenient front load compartment offering smart storage space to the owner. The space is perfect for storing charging cables as here they are not only easily accessible and well-protected from moisture, dirt, and dust. The front-load area is divided into two sections - upper and lower via an easily removable load floor.

You’ll also find several smart storage solutions for water bottles, gym bags, phones, laptops, takeaway food, and much more.

Audio system: The C40 Recharge is available in not one but two audio system options - High-Performance audio system and Harman Kardon Premium Sound system. The former packs 8 speakers, 7 channels, and 250-watt output; the latter comes with optional 13 speakers, 12 channels, subwoofer, and 600-watt output.

Clean cabin air: The EV comes with an advanced air purifier system that prevents up to 80 percent of hazardous PM 2.5 particles from entering the cabin. This helps the driver and passengers to enjoy better and healthier air quality. The system also monitors particle and pollen levels outside the car.

App remote services: Users need to subscribe to Volvo's digital services package to enjoy full access to all the remote services offered by the brand. It includes locking and unlocking, cabin pre-cleaning heating or cooling, and charging start.

Smart features: The car comes integrated with several smart features like best-in-class navigation via Google Maps that gives real-time traffic information and automatic re-routing, Google Assistant for hands-free help, Google Play to enjoy apps & services on the go, automatic over-the-air updates, and more in-car apps.

Strong safety: The EV features an advanced body structure along with a unique battery cage designed to protect occupants at the time of collision. The car is loaded with ample preventive and protective features. The former include Lane Keeping Aid, Pixel LED headlights, Fog lamps, 12-inch driver display, Adaptive cruise control, Pilot Assist, Power retractable door mirrors, BLIS™ and Cross Traffic Alert, Digital owners manual, Illuminated vanity mirrors, Auto-dimming rearview mirrors, Touring chassis, Tyre pressure monitoring, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Rear Collision Warning, Adaptive power steering, Rain sensor, Park assist, front, rear and sides, Ticket holder, and 9-inch center display.
