2023 Peugeot Landtrek vs. Ford Ranger: Fight between Italian & American pickup
It was only recently that Peugeot Malaysia added a new vehicle to its lineup, the Landtrek pickup. With its arrival, the local pickup segment sure got a shake, as the French offering is not only priced competitively but offers a bunch of exciting features. Not to forget the design language the automaker is known to offer.
The one pickup that experienced the maximum heat with the arrival of the Landtrek is none other than the popular Ford Ranger.
With somewhat similar price points, today we are going to compare the new Peugeot Landtrek with the Ford Ranger XL. The rest of the Ranger variants (XLT, XLT Plus, WildTrak, and Raptor) are much dearer than the French offering, thus making no sense in putting them against the new French pickup.
Without any delay, let’s start comparing the Landtrek and Ranger XL pickups and see which one is the better choice.
Price
The all-new Peugeot Landtrek is offered in a single variant option called 1.9D Allure which retails for RM 120,072 (on the road without insurance).
The Ford Ranger XL, on the other hand, is offered in two trim options, 2.0 XL MT and 2.0 XL AT, priced at RM 108,888 and RM 113,888 respectively.

In addition, the Landtrek off-roading capabilities are enhanced by a wading depth of 600 mm along with the approach, break over, and departure angles of 29-, 25-, and 27 degrees. The pickup side slope angle of 42 degrees only adds to it and is a great package.
Engine
Powering the Landtrek is a 1.9-litre inline-four turbodiesel engine generating a maximum power of 150 hp at 4,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 350 Nm from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm. The drive is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Ranger is equipped with a 2.0-litre diesel engine with a single turbo making 170 PS at 3,500 rpm and 405 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. The engine is paired either to a 6-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly or a 6-speed manual with SelectShift Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly, depending on the trim opted.
Chassis & Suspension
The Landtrek runs on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/60 R18 tyres and gets hydraulic power steering. The suspension setup includes double wishbones and leaf springs at the front and rear respectively. The braking system includes ventilated discs and drum brakes at each end.
The Ranger pickup benefits from electronic power-assisted steering - rack & pinion. The suspension setup here also gets double wishbones and leaf springs at the front and rear respectively. The pickup also gets a Ranger-like braking setup, including ventilated disc and drum brakes at each end.

Conclusion
The above-mentioned specifications reveal the all-new Landtrek to be better equipped with features both on the inside and out. However, the Ranger has a more powerful mill between the two. Thus, making it easy for the customers as to what is more essential for him/her, form or function.
