Yamaha MT-07 Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The Yamaha MT-07 was introduced to the world in the year 2018 and since it was inclined towards the sports-adventure segment, it was acclaimed as “Dark Attraction” by the automaker. Yamaha made a gradual shift from its FZ series to the MT series, which was the naked-faired sports bike segment. The MT-07 is essentially the first model to be introduced globally from this new series.
With the MT-07, Yamaha tried to make an all-new entry into the world of making naked roadsters. The MT-07 is fitted with a parallel-twin, liquid-cooled 689cc engine. The motor produces a maximum power of 74 PS at 9,000 rpm and 68 Nm peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The bike has an antilock braking system with dual 282mm disc brakes in the front and a single 245mm disc at the back. The suspension system of the Yamaha MT-07 was revised for the 2019 model year. The bike is available in two colour options- Blue and White and is priced at RM 38,288.

Yamaha MT-07 Design
Yamaha MT-07 is the first model after the company decided to take an all-new approach towards the naked-roadsters. Bearing some similarity to the FX series, the MT-07 is still more masculine and aggressive in terms of designing and layout.
Talking about the front profile of the bike, we see a minimalistic design with small headlamps. The absence of LED lights makes it a little dull but to uplift, the downside appeal is the single-piece handlebar, which is positioned quite at a height, just like in a super-moto. The fuel-tank of the MT-07 is comparatively bulky in shape and size which adds to the masculine look of the bike. The fuel-tank is also the house to the Yamaha logo with air scoops at the front edges. The prominent element of attraction is the lifted-up tail section which is mostly ubiquitous to most sport-bikes. The handlebar is pretty flat and straight and below it resides a fully digital instrument console. Displayed in the console are the speedometer, tachometer, fuel-gauge, temperature gauge, and gear indicator. Adding to the uniqueness is the ignition keyhole placed above the instrument console, which is a rear sight to see.
Again, unlike other MT series of motorcycles, the MT-07 comes with a short rear fender and conventional positioning for its LED tail light.
MT-07 Ride & Handling
Ride and handling are features that truly deserve to be accomplished when it comes to a sports-bike. Yamaha MT-07 truly proves that it has all the Yamaha dynamics in terms of ride and handling. The MT-07 has been equipped with upside-down telescopic hydraulic forks at the front and a fully adjustable hydraulic mono-shock at the rear. The bodyweight of the bike is not much bulky and it has a leaner stance, which also helps in precise stability. In the braking department, the MT-07 is fitted with dual 282mm discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear.
Yamaha MT-07 Engine & Fuel Consumption
MT-07 has been fitted with an inline twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 689cc engine. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox, this engine churns out a maximum power output of 74.8 PS and a peak torque output of 68 Nm. The engine shares its cross-plane layout for its crankshaft from the flagship MT-10, which has allowed Yamaha to give it a crank angle of 270 degrees.
MT-07 Braking & Safety
Not much features can be listed here in terms of basic and standard safety elements, the MT-07 is incorporated with the standard Anti-Lock Braking System. Being a middleweight bike in this segment, we expected some more features to be seen here, which are otherwise a miss.
Yamaha MT-07 Verdict
If you are in search of a bike that can render a perfect balance when it comes to power and weight then this bike can be an ideal one for you to opt for. The bike being a lightweight one won’t be a hassle to commute for long hours as well. Also, MT-07 being a powerful engine performer, you can rely on it while you intend to go for long journeys. This bike is indeed a perfect companion for me on such long duration journeys. The bike has been styled in naked sports bike looks which is highly appealing. Despite being a middle-weight bike it has aggressive looks that can easily draw anyone’s attention. The core attributes like overall performance from its engine and the amazing riding dynamics make up for a great big bike experience.
