About Yamaha Malaysia

Today, Yamaha maintains several dealerships across Malaysia, including the authorised dealer, star centre, star dealer, big bike, YQS, YGP store, and spare parts stockist. The Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) is the official distributor of Yamaha vehicles locally.
HLYM was incorporated in 1979 in Malaysia. It is a joint venture between Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. and Hong Leong Industries Bhd. The later holds the majority stake in HLYM and is a part of the diversified Hong Leong Group of Companies. In 1978, Yamaha appointed HLYM as its official franchise holder for CBU and CKD motorcycles and ATVs in Malaysia. In 1979, the RX100 became the first Yamaha CKD street model to be rolled out of the Shah Alam plant.
In the coming years, Yamaha expanded its lineup with the introduction of models like the DT125, Y80, and DX 1000. Also, the production capacity of the plant reached 3500 units per month. In 1988, the 500,000th locally assembled unit was rolled out in grand fanfare. Further, in 1994, Yamaha Malaysia made the commendable achievement of rolling out the 1,000,000 motorcycles.
Moving down the lane, Yamaha Malaysia relocated from Shah Alam to the current 36 acres Hong Leong Yamaha Complex. It houses the company’s main office block, warehouse, assembly operation, plastic injection moulding, spray painting, and even an R&D centre with four factories engaged in press and welding of metal parts. Hicom Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Sdn Bhd locally supplied most of the CKD bike engines. In 2018, 4 millionth unit of Yamaha motorcycle was rolled out, and it was a testament of HLYM’s long-term commitment to deliver a premium quality product that meets Yamaha Motors Co.Ltd. standards.
Toyota HLYM continues its successful journey by continuously investing in new technologies, equipment, and enhancing the skills of its employees. Over time, Yamaha Malaysia has received many awards and recognition including the ISO 9001, ISO14001 (Environment Management System) from SIRIM QAS International and SGS Malaysia/SGS UK and MPC certification by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation and the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Excellence 1st Category award from JIPM for the enhancement of quality, cost, and delivery performance.
