Recent Updates of Kriss MR1
Malaysian motorcycle brand Modenas made a strong comeback recently with the all-new Kriss MR2. This new underborne in the town is priced at RM 4,123. However, its elder sibling, the MR1 is still waiting for its share of significant updates. The company recently added a few color splashes and graphics to the Kriss MR1. The 100 cc underborne is now available in four new shades - white, blue, yellow and red. The bike features a high-spirited look thanks to the new body graphics, 3D MR1 badge, and an analogue instrument console. According to the company, Kriss MR1 gives a mileage of 46 kmpl and comes with a 4.3-litre fuel tank. We expected a disc brake update from the manufacturer, but it didn’t happen, and as for now customers have to settle for drum brakes at both the ends.

Modenas Kriss MR1 Review 2024
The Modenas Kriss MR1 has been one of the popular 100 cc underbones in Malaysia since it was launched back in the year 2012. It has received a few facelifts since its launch but the mechanics have been untouched. The latest model of the Kriss MR1 is offered in two variants- the MR1 base and the MR1 Sports. The base variant comes fitted with spoke wheels while the Sports variant has black coloured alloy wheels. There’s no change in terms of power as both the variants draw power from a 97.2 cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled SOHC engine which is capable of generating a max power of 6.7 hp at 7,500 rpm and peak torque of 6.7 Nm at 5,500 rpm, mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. In terms of design, the Kriss MR1 is pretty basic featuring a not so sharp headlight, easy to read instrument panel and decent body graphics. There are four colour options to choose from- red, blue, yellow and white. The all-white colour is offered only in the base variant. The black sporty rim and alloy wheels on the Sports variant make it look very attractive. With a price tag of RM 3,300 for the base variant and RM3,400 for the Sports variant, this underbone is bound to offer value for money to its buyers. The Modenas Kriss MR1 rivals against the Demax EX90, the Demak DJ90 and the SYM E Bonus 110.
Modenas Kriss MR1 Design
Modenas has developed the Kriss MR1 in a very mild and subtle design tone. Nowhere will you find any sharp cuts and creases or loud body graphics. At front, the handlebar stores the headlamp and turn indicators. Right below the handlebar, the front apron has a Modenas logo and two small air vents, while an MR1 logo can be spotted on both sides of the front apron. Another MR1 logo is placed on the side body and the exhaust is covered by a silver painted muffler. The mild graphics continue on the sides and go all the way to the rear end. The rear features a neatly designed tail lamp with side indicators and a black colored single grab rail. The colours red, yellow and blue are mixed with white and black on both the variants, while an all-white option is available in the base variant.
Kriss MR1 Ride & Handling
Modenas has built the Kriss MR1 on a pipe backbone frame and the bike has a kerb weight of 98 kg. Despite being a little on the heavier side, the handling is not so difficult and it can easily be manoeuvred around on city roads. Moreover, the alloy wheels on the Sports variant add to a stable riding experience as compared to the base variant that has spoke wheels. To handle the bumps and jerks on the roads, the Kriss MR1 is equipped with conventional telescopic front forks and trailing swing arm at the rear.
Modenas Kriss MR1 Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the Modenas Kriss MR1 is a 97.2 cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled SOHC engine that churns out a max power of 6.7 hp at 7,500 rpm and peak torque of 6.7 Nm at 5,500 rpm. Power from the engine is transmitted to the wheels using a centrifugal clutch and 4-speed manual gearbox. As per Modenas claims, one can drive the Kriss MR1 for 100 kms at an average speed of 80 kmph using 2.2-litre of fuel. That’s a fuel efficiency of nearly 46 kmpl. The fuel tank capacity of the street bike is 4.3-litre and it has both kick & electric start options.
Kriss MR1 Braking & Safety
Braking duties are carried by all-round drum brakes at both the ends. This is one area where Modenas could have improved the Kriss MR1. At least a front disc option must have been offered in both the variants to add to the rider’s safety. There aren’t any additional safety features on the bike like anti-theft key shutter system etc.
