BMW K 1600 GT Design
The BMW K 1600 GT packs in size and modernness in abundance, for it is one of the largest-sized baggers on sale right now with a cutting-edge design that can make some of the other traditional baggers feel a bit outdated. The overall design of the BMW K 1600 GT has a lot of European vibe to it, which makes it look premium and feel expensive from every angle.
At the front, the BMW K 1600 GT welcomes one with its wide fascia, which comprises a V-shaped headlamp unit that incorporates four LED projectors on the sides for low beams and a centrally-placed full-LED unit for the main beam. The headlamp is accompanied by a tall, wide and transparent windscreen above it, that is electronically-adjustable.
From the side, the BMW K 1600 GT looks even more majestic, with its long wheelbase and large-sized body panels giving it a gargantuan stance. The bagger has aerodynamically styled side panels adjacent to its front fascia, which come integrated with tiny vents within them. The fuel tank of the motorcycle also feels large and has curved knee recesses to make one feel at home here on the otherwise huge and intimidating motorcycle.
The rear side body panels beneath the split seats also look sleek and come armed with large panniers on either side. The rear end of the BMW K 1600 GT also looks sleek and wide, with an edgy-looking tail lamp cluster that houses both centrally-placed LED tail lamp and LED turn indicators affixed to either side. Beneath the panniers on the sides, the BMW K 1600 GT has long dual exhaust pipes – one on each side.
The majestic-looking BMW K 1600 GT has a huge cockpit, which looks very modern and tech-ready with the large and fancy 10.25-inch full-TFT instrument console and large clip-on handlebars with premium switchgear. The TFT console has multiple modes of display, while also supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and controls for audio system 2.0. The bagger comes equipped with additional features like charging storage for mobile phones with USB Type-C ports, four configurable favourite cluster buttons and heated grips and seats.
K 1600 GT Ride & Handling
The BMW K 1600 GT has a sophisticated bridge-type cast aluminium frame beneath its bodywork, complemented by an equally premium suspension combination of duo ever with a central spring strut at the front and cast aluminium single-sided swing-arm with paralever and central spring strut at the rear. Riding on wide and grippy 120/70 ZR17 front and 190/55 ZR17 rear tyres wrapped over 17-inch wheels, the BMW K 1600 GT has dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 320mm disc at the rear for braking. For a more comfort-oriented setup, the BMW K 1600 GT also has dynamic electronic suspension adjustment with automatic load levelling, while the reversing assistance makes reversing this mammoth motorcycle a bit easier.
BMW K 1600 GT Engine & Fuel Consumption
Sharing its powertrain with the rest of the models in the K 1600 lineup from BMW Motorrad, the K1600 GT gets a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, inline-six, 1649cc engine, which is one of the few inline-six engines for motorcycles available in the current generation. This engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission and pumps out a maximum power output of 160 bhp and a peak torque output of 180 Nm. With this engine, the BMW K 1600 GT can touch a top speed of 200 kmph and return 16.94 kmpl fuel efficiency.
K 1600 GT Braking & Safety
Being one of the most expensive and tech-laden bagger motorcycles, the BMW K 1600 GT is loaded with features and electronic riding aids like adaptive cornering lights, dynamic traction control, dual-channel ABS, three riding modes (Rain, Road and Dynamic), engine brake control, hill start assist pro, tyre pressure control and keyless ignition.
BMW K 1600 GT Verdict
The BMW K 1600 GT is purely for those who value modern technology on motorcycles and enjoy long-distance touring with full-blown power and comfort levels of the highest possible order. It does come at a hefty price, but the tech, features and performance on offer justify it.
