Suzuki Swift

Introduction:

The new Suzuki swift is presented with a slight mechanical makeup that consists of elements which are not common in the hatchbacks of its league. It is an embodiment of simplicity that is cherished by different class of consumers in Malaysian market. The newly launched Swift in January does not hold any significant difference from the one that was launched globally in 2010. But, the car is all geared up to face the competitors in the Malaysian market to boost the sales register of the company as it has done in the previous years.

Engine, Mileage & variants:

The light and compact K14B 1.4-litre petrol engine with variable intake valve timing delivers superb power to weight ratio that helps in realizing nimble driving performance along with improving the fuel efficiency of the car. The engine delivers a decent maximum power of 95 PS at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. The 4 speed Auto transmission helps the driver in reaching 100 km/ hr in just 11 seconds with a top speed of 170 kms/ hr. The engine also delivers a laudable fuel economy of 20.4 kmpl that makes it a serious competetor in its league. The Swift is available in two variants GL and GLX, with the GLX offering a few added features like alloy wheels and rear disc brakes.

Exteriors:

With great styling, the car is attractive enough to maintain its appeal. The Eye-catching details of Swift sets it apart from other hatchbacks available in Malaysian market. The dimensions of the car measure as (3850 mm X 1695 mm X 1510 mm) mm (L X W X H) with a wheelbase of 2430 mm that gives enough leg room and head room to the occupants. Swift GL is equipped with 15-inch steel wheels with tyre size of 175/65 R15 whereas the GLX has 16 inches of alloy wheels with tyre size of 185/55 R16 that gives improved road experience and better fuel efficiency.

Interiors:

Although Swift is a compact car but, Suzuki has smartly designed the interiors to maximize the space and comfort for the occupants. The 3 Spoke steering wheel with urethane is equipped in GL model whereas, one will get a leather covered telescopic steering wheel with audio switches embedded in it in GLX model. To fill the car with adequate sound the GL model comes with 4 speaker music system with USB port connectivity. The GLX model further provides 6 speakers in it. You will also get push start/ stop button along with driver side height adjustable seat in the GLX model. The boot space of 205 Litres provides adequate space to carry routine luggage.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous:

Safety measures are important in each segment and Suzuki has considered this factor significantly to upbeat the safety measures of Swift. The car comes with dual Air bags in GLX model and single in GL model along with Anti- Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution System (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), immobilizer and security alarm. In addition to this an individual also gets an option of ISOFIX seat in both the variants. Ventilated Discs brakes in front and solid disc brakes in rear is accompanied with Macpherson Strut suspension in front and torison beam in rear to give better handling and braking experience but the GL variant gets drum brakes on the rear.

Verdict:

Suzuki Swift is a fun to drive car with a lack of cabin space to store small items. Swift offers a decent drive but is not the cutting edge car for the present. Its same old design seems to be the USP for some yet boring for others. The car could have been more competetively priced.
