Honest review from a father of four boys
Well as a comparison, my previous MPV was a 2004 Honda Elysion 3.0 V6, and we have to buy a new car since the cost of maintaining it have gotten high recently. We are torn between recon Estima, Alphard or Vellfire and even Honda Oddysey. For around 200K, we could get all these recond model for year make around 2016. But after much thought we finally decided in buying the new Kia Carnival 2022 due to the fact that we would like to enjoy the peace of mind with 5 years free maintainance and warranty. The fact that our Elysion was broken down does play a part in the decision. We got our ride just few days before the Chinese new year so this enable us to balik kampung. Here's my take about the car after driving it for around 2000KM from Melaka to KL and then to Ganu and back to Melaka again. Fuel is safe, though this does depends on your driving style. A full tank (~RM150) from Melaka can take you to KL and then Terengganu with still some juice to spare, before refuel the meter was showing that I have driven around 1000 KM. Not bad. It has no problem in tackling the hills and corner on Karak, it climbs without problem and you can overtake easily too. Basically it has abundance of power. The driver seat is nice, the lumbar support is adequate. In fact I didn't have back ache that I used to have while driving my old MPV. It also has some nifty safety features like warning if there is car when changing lane and I also gotten used to the auto-hold feature. Overall as a driver I enjoy driving it. On the passenger side, my kids love it, I have 4 boys by the way and due to the Carnival seat configuration you could fold the seats so that you could have 4 invidual seats at the back. For some this may be a problem, since they may prefer to have a better captain seat as a choice. But for me, I like it because when going to my parent house I can un fold the seat to accomomodate my parents and if I need more seats, there is always the last row bench. Luggage room is huge by the way and since you can fold the middle seat it makes it easier for kids to go to the luggage area to get stuffs. What I dont like? Probably the gear in dial mode, not to say that I dont like it but it needs time to get used to. Plus, you dont have that racing feeling of holding the gear knob while cornering at Karak. The center console is also too big and wide, and it doesnt have any compartment below it to put stuff. The tires that came with it is also quite noisy and does not perform well in the rain. So yea its basically a great car and I have not regret in buying it.
