Borgward BX7

Borgward Auto, a Chinese owned German carmaker will shortly launch its BX7 SUV in the Malaysian market. The Borgward BX7 will likely be locally assembled at GO Bremen Motors. Borgward will also have a smaller BX5 SUV ready for launch. However, that is mostly going to happen next year.

In terms of competition, the BX7 will compete with the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Volkswagen Tiguan, and the Hyundai Tucson. It may offer five, six or seven seat arrangement.

In terms of looks, the SUV looks quite upmarket and has a stance to it like no other vehicle in the segment. Borgward claims a ride height of 196 mm. This ground clearance while not the best in the segment should be more than enough to take on the rough. All-wheel drive too will be offered as standard on the BX7.

If you look at the Borgward BX7 specifications, then there are a lot of features which might come in as standard. Borgward offers Xenon headlights, 18-inch alloys, powered tailgate, front powered seats with massage function, panoramic sunroof, tri-zone climate control, rear AC vents, 12.3-inch infotainment system, head-up display, and leather upholstery. In terms of the engine, there will likely be a 224 PS/300 Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with power being sent to all the four wheels.

Safety will also be something which will be taken care of well in this German SUV. Six airbags, traction control, ABS with EBD, Hill Assist, cornering stability control, blind spot monitoring and more should be available as standard fare. Expect prices to start from RM 130,000 when the SUV goes on sale in a few days from now. German quality with Chinese craftsmanship can definitely be expected from this SUV.
