Recent Updates of X2
September 2020 marked the revelation of the new X2 model from BMW with a few tweaks around the car’s features without major changes in the body. A few changes have already been made known to the drivers. For instance, the front kidney grille will be larger and wider in shape than the current model while the LED front headlights will have a new shape for a more concentrated light beam. However, the biggest change which will make the X2 drivers go mad with excitement is the implementation of a touch screen in the iDrive infotainment system in the interiors. Moreover, the engine will be a plug-in hybrid model to enhance the car’s performance.

BMW X2 Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The BMW X2, which is placed between the entry-level X1 and more premium midsize X3, was introduced as a lifestyle crossover, with a unique styling aimed squarely at those who are young at heart. young crowd and go-getters in mind. Available in a total of three variants – Base, M Sport Package and M Sport X package, the BMW X2 is offered with a single petrol automatic powertrain, with a host of customisation options for exterior paint, interior upholsteries and trims, and alloy wheels to choose from.
BMW X2 Interior & Features
Unlike the exterior which looks very dramatic and a bit unconventional, the interior cabin of the BMW X2 looks quite normal in comparison. It has got the traditional BMW layout for the driver’s cockpit and dashboard with a sophisticated layout, with an all-black layout characterized by a contrast silver theme flowing across the middle of the dashboard, and colour coded inserts at places.
The three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel with the silver inserts looks decent and the same can be said about the simple-looking instrument console. However, the full digital TFT screen for the instrument console like in new generation BMWs would have been welcomed here.
Designed to be driver-centric, the centre console is slightly tilted towards the driver. The trapezoidal theme executed for the free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, AC vents and the control panel for dual-zone automatic climate control looks neat and premium.
While the BMW X2 is loaded to gills with all the premium features, the glaring omission of Android Auto in the BMW X2 is quite surprising. In terms of in-cabin space, the X2 gets ample room for at most four passengers, as the high transmission tunnel and low roofline do eat up headroom and shoulder room a bit.
X2 Exterior
Breaking the conventional path of a SUB of being a bulky and huge looking vehicle, the BMW X2 has a dramatic looking silhouette which looks large than a regular hatchback but has the butch appeal of an SUV. It does look rugged and stylish, however, it is not as intimidating as an SUV should be, in terms of stance.
The BMW X2 has got the traditional double kidney grille which gets chrome surrounds like in all other BMWs. However, it does manage to look distinctive with tapered edges outwards as compared to the rounded ones aa seen on other BMWs.
Shaped like eyebrows, the headlamps are incorporated with the latest LED lighting technology, and also features the corona ring-like daytime running LEDs. Another unconventional thing about the X2 is the positioning of the fog lamps, which are slightly higher here, just below the headlamps. The front bumper looks aggressive with triangular faux air vents positioned on its corners, where the fog lamps use to be in other vehicles.
The BMW X2 looks taut with a slightly lower roofline and lower ground clearance, along with large alloy wheel options which go up to 20-inchers. The squared wheel arches do manage to accentuate its rugged appeal. At the rear, the BMW X2 sources much inspiration from the 1-Series hatchback, with the large and sloping tail lamps gelling well with the clean theme for the boot lid.
BMW X2 Ride & Handling
Like all the other BMWs, the X2 feels rich in driving dynamics has with the availability of dynamic damper control, which allows adjusting the suspension settings. The presence of M Sports steering with Servotronic and M Sport suspension is a boon too, which gives a superior feel to drive and handle
X2 Engine & Fuel Consumption
In the Malaysian market, the BMW X2 comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which belts out a maximum power output of 192 PS and 280 Nm of peak torque output. The standard transmission here for the engine is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
BMW X2 Braking & Safety
The BMW X2 comes with a variety of safety features like airbags all around, ABS with EBD and brake assist, lane departure warning, approach control warning, hill descent control, person warning with light city braking, high beam assistant, speed limit info, camera-based cruise control, traffic jam assistant, heads up display and parking assistant.
X2 Verdict
The BMW X2 might not be a conventional heightened SUV in terms of stance and performance. Though, it has got a striking visual identity and succeeds in creating a good impression with BMW’s traditional values of an excellent ride and handling equilibrium.
