BMW M4 Coupe Review 2024
Based on the M3 sedan, the M4 Coupe is the more hardcore version of the same platform, both visually and mechanically. As in other markets, in Malaysia too, the BMW M4 Convertible is being offered in one standard version, which is available with a number of customization options on offer.
BMW M4 Coupe Interior & Features
The much similarity between the M3 and M4 doesn’t end on the part of exterior styling – in fact, the M4 shares its cabin with the M3, which can be availed in one of the many customized color and upholstery options.
The boring looking instrument console of the previous generation car has been replaced with the fully digital LCD instrument console, however, the round themed sporty looking steering wheel is the same. The hexagonal shaped center console looks wide and is focused on the driver, making it look visually driver-oriented. This center console features the typical BMW traits like free-standing infotainment system and an array of buttons for climate control below it. Given that it is an offering from the M-range, the choice of materials and upholsteries look and feel more up-market, and the exclusive M-badges at various places make it even more special.
The ergonomics of the M4 Coupe is a kind of mixed bag – while it is incredibly sporty and supportive in the front row, the space at the rear is a bit cramped due to limited knee room and headroom.
M4 Coupe Exterior
One glance at the BMW M4 and there is no doubt in feeling that it is a normal sports coupe. With all the essence for which the M-range of cars is known for, the M4 has got a stance which looks very sporty.
From the front, one can mistake the M4 with the M3, as both the cars get the exact same front fascia with sleek full LED headlamps adjoined to the double bar kidney grille which is completely finished in gloss black. Even the front bumper with aggressive looking air dams on the corners on the M4 has been shared with the M3.
Coming to the side profile, and it is here where the M4 gets its own individuality. Compared to the M3, the M4 gets only two frameless doors and different looking set of 20-inch alloy wheels. However, winglet-shaped outside rear view mirrors, as well as the prominent line running from the front fender to the rear, have been shared with the M3. Another aspect which increases its sportiness is it the sloping roofline flowing towards the rear.
Like the front, the rear profile too is an exact replica of that of the M3. Everything at the rear, including the stretched L-shaped full LED tail lamps, quad exhaust pipes, and rear sporty looking bumper have been lifted off from the M3.
BMW M4 Coupe Ride & Handling
BMW has blessed the M4 Coupe with the basic suspension components, brakes and electronic driving aids as seen in the M3 as well. The suspension features three different driving modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport+, which along with the exclusive for M-range features like Adaptive M suspension, the Active M Differential and M Servotronic, make the overall driving experience a pleasurable one.
M4 Coupe Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the BMW M4 is the same 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 engine which powers a range of other BMWs, including the top-spec 3 Series, 5 Series, and the M3 as well. The engine, here in the M4 Coupe, produces a maximum power output of 450PS and a peak torque output of 550Nm. With its own characteristic exhaust note, this engine is coupled to BMW’s 7-speed automatic gearbox, and channels the power produced to the rear wheels.
BMW M4 Coupe Braking & Safety
The list of prominent safety features in the BMW M4 coupe includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, cornering brake control, dynamic traction control and hill start assist.
M4 Coupe Verdict
With the M4 Coupe, BMW has tried to give the special feel of a 2-door profile and sloping roofline of a coupe blended with the incredible balance of performance and driving dynamics of the M3. While the M3 was always helmed as one of the best driver’s car, the M4 Coupe pushes the envelope further with an added visual treat.
