Zooz’s latest electric bike concept weighs 39 kg
KUALA LUMPUR: Zooz is an America-based e-bike company that has recently revealed its latest concept with no plans to put it into production anytime soon. The said concept displays a skeletal frame accompanied by simple mechanicals.
Well, the first thought that many, including us, had in our minds seeing the Zooz’ electric concept was ‘where is the motor?’. However, delving a little deeper into the concept, it was its simplicity that blew our minds away. The concept is somewhere between a full-blown electric motorcycle and e-bike, slightly learning towards the former.
What is impressive to see is how Zooz took simple cycle fame, added motorcycle-inspired swingarm to it, and though it was enough. The end result, we must say, is quite brilliant! The Zooz electric concept reminds us of the pre-World War I Indians, Harleys, and a few other British bikes that placed a small motor onto a cycle frame. And the little bodywork that is seen on the bike like the battery compartment under the seat and the front cowl, is made up of carbon fiber.
The riding posture looks a bit awkward and is nothing like the one seen on an e-bike. The concept doesn’t have a seat-adjustment feature, also getting to the low-slung bars seems quite a task. Also, there are no pedals, and the position of the foot-pegs is such that the long riders might get a leg cramp. But, remember it is a concept, so we can let all the shortcomings slide.
The concept is powered by a 4.3 kW hub motor whose performance figures are not known at the moment. What we do know is that it weighs 39 kg, thus making it a ridiculously light e-bike. Also, it claims a top speed of 100 kmph, that’s quicker than most of the electric two-wheelers on sale in the market. Overall, it is a potent package of a quick motor and light body.
This Zooz e-bike is unlikely to go into production. However, it is a fantastic idea that electric bikemakers should try and bring back the simplicity in the segment.
