Yamaha Y15ZR GP Edition launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha has brought something interesting and appealing to the Malaysian market. The company has launched the 2018 Yamaha Y15ZR in the GP Edition that has been priced at RM 8,588 which excludes all additional charges.

The Yamaha Y15ZR is powered by a 150-cc single cylinder engine, with electronic fuel injection, which is capable of making a maximum power of 15.1 PS at 8,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 13.8 Nm at 7,000 rpm. This power is sent down to the wheel via a chain-driven 5-speed gearbox.

Aesthetically, the new 2018 Yamaha Y15ZR is painted in the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP colour shades. It has a total kerb weight of 115 kgs and has a seat height of 780 mm. On the instrument zone, there is a large analogue dial for the speedometer as well as an LCD screen for the fuel gauge and odometer.

The underbone has 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels that have single disc brakes at both the ends with one-piston callipers. As for the suspension, the GP edition uses the conventional telescopic front forks while the rear has preloaded adjustable monoshock spring.

The 2018 Yamaha Y15ZR GP Edition competes against the amazing Honda RS150R. However, it is to be seen that the Honda model is slightly more powerful than the Yamaha two-wheeler despite having a similar engine under the hood. It makes 15.6 PS of power and 13.5 Nm of torque. Plus, it has a 6-speed transmission, which offers shorter gear ratios.

The Honda RS150R is sold at RM 7,998 and is just marginally more expensive than the Yamaha Y15ZR which has a base price tag of RM 7,888. The bike will reach the official dealerships by the mid of this month. The package will also include limited edition items like a fitness wristband.
