Yamaha gives us a look at the 2019 Y15ZR
KUALA LUMPUR: The moped segment is highly successful in most Asian countries, and Yamaha is a major player in the game. Recently at the first Cub Prix (known as ‘Y Suku’ by supercub fans), Yamaha unveiled the 2019 Y15ZR V2. Unfortunately, the pricing will only be available next month according to Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM), the official distributor of Yamaha Malaysia.
The biggest change in the V2 version comes in the form of the headlight. It now has a new shape and is LED in nature. You also get a fully digital instrument cluster, replacing the older analogue one. Along with this Yamaha has also added a passing light and an engine kill switch. Other significant changes include an increase in dimensions, as seen with the release of the YZ15R V2 in other ASEAN countries. Over the previous model, the new V2 version is 15 mm longer, 20 mm taller, and the ride height has increased by 15 mm. There is also a marginal increase in weight by 2 kg, possibly caused by the larger front tyre (90/80 R17) and redesigned rear suspension. The bigger tyre also means that the front fender has increased in size.
Powering the Y15ZR is a 150 cc, single-cylinder SOHC engine. It produces 15.4 PS at 8,500 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The fuel tank capacity remains at 4.2-litre, like its predecessor.
There were four colors on display at the unveiling. These were- Blazing Red, Storm Blue, Dynamic Grey, and Striking Cyan. Yamaha is also throwing in a free disc brake lock (worth RM100) for all buyers of the 2019 Y15ZR.
With these subtle changes, the Y15ZR keeps itself competitive in the moped category and makes a strong case for itself with great styling and features. We will have to wait until next month for its official pricing in Malaysia.
