Supply chain issue forces Honda to temporary halt orders

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, that’s right. Honda will not be accepting orders for the time being due to a major supply chain issue. Thankfully, the temporary halt only extends to ten motorcycles in the lineup, as the rest will be doing business as usual.

The said supply chain issue mainly concerns the models' logistic system and manufacturing process. Also, affecting the motorcycle’s production is the recent law regarding exhaust regulation passed by the Japanese government.

Now let’s get to know the ten Honda models whose order books will remain closed for some time - Rebel 250, Rebel 500, Rebel 1100, Honda ADV150, CRF250L, CRF250 Rally, MSX125, Monkey 125, Hunter Cub 125, and Forza.

Honda on the issue said, “Due to multiple factors such as lockdowns due to the new coronavirus infection overseas, congestion in marine transportation and harbors worldwide, and semiconductor supply shortages, product and parts arrivals have been delayed.”

As for when Honda will start accepting bookings for these ten models nothing is confirmed. In its statement, the brand said, “Regarding the resumption of orders for the target products, we will inform you again from this site and Honda motorcycle authorized dealers. We will continue to do our best to deliver products to our customers as soon as possible, so we appreciate your understanding.”

Will Malaysia be affected by this situation? It is unclear at the moment as to which other markets apart from Japan will be affected by this temporary suspension of orders. Of the ten models affected by the supply chain issue, Honda Malaysia's lineup only includes ADV150, Rebel, and CRF250 Rally motorcycles.
