Modenas Z250 and Ninja 250 ABS grabbed a 5-star MyMAP safety rating

KUALA LUMPUR: Edaran Modenas Sdn Bhd (EMOS) has recently introduced not one, not two but a total of four new touring and superbike models in Malaysia, including the Z900RS, Ninja ZX-10R, Ninja 1000 SX, and Versys 1000SE. And now, the official subsidiary of Modenas bikes is making the headlines for the safety rating of its two 250cc models - Modenas Z250 and Ninja 250 ABS.

Both motorcycles have been awarded with a 5-star rating by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) after passing the MyMAP (Malaysia Motorcycle Assessment Program) assessment and audit at the brand’s plant in Gurun, Kedah in the month of October. 

The safety features that helped the bikes to achieve five stars are the Anti-Lock Braking System, economical riding indicator, assist and slipper clutch, and ergonomically designed lighter chassis.

For those who are not aware, the MyMAP safety programme is a part of the government’s continuous efforts to promote safer motorcycles. It encourages utilisation of advanced safety tech on motorcycles and enhances consumer awareness of safe riding for crash prevention. 

Founded by the same team who formed the ASEAN NCAP, the programme follows the same grading parameters as the New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP). Participation in the MyMAP programme is managed by MARii (Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute) and MIROS (Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research) and is currently voluntary for all bike makers in the country.

Roslan Roskan, Chief Executive Officer of MODENAS quoted, “this will be the first time for MODENAS to receive such recognition for its products. In addition, both models are the first motorcycles to receive the MyMAP 5-star rating in its class (250cc sports bike for Ninja and 250cc naked bike for Z250). By having so, we believe that it will help our customers to make a more informed purchase decision, especially on the importance of having advanced safety technology available on their motorcycles. In addition, MODENAS will continue to provide more safety features to its existing range of motorcycles.”
