Malaysia gets two BMW touring bikes, the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Motorrad has rolled out two new touring bikes in the local market, called the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL. The 2023 BMW K 1600 GT offers agility and dynamic ride and handling while the 2023 BMW K 1600 GTL comes with more comfortable ergonomics and a standard top case for pleasurable riding.

Engine specifications
Both models are powered by the updated 1,649-cc in-line six-cylinder engine that is capable of generating a maximum power of 160 hp at 6,750 rpm and a peak torque of 180 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed, helical, gearbox paired with a shaft drive system.
The upgraded mill features two knock sensors on the back of the cylinder that keep the motor smooth, even with lower-octane fuel. The combustion chambers' performance is monitored by six sensors on the exhaust manifold and a pair of newly added lambda sensors. The fuel efficiency is rated at 5.9 litres per 100 km.
Features
The 2023 BMW K 1600 GT and 2023 BMW K 1600 GTL are now equipped with a full LED headlight with a light icon and adaptive cornering light, paired with LED Auxiliary Lights, daytime riding and additional fog lights.
Also part of the kit is a 10.25-Inch colour-TFT display with configurable favourite buttons and integrated map navigation, low electrically adjustable windscreens, spacious storage compartments, heated seats and grips, and an engine protection guard. The K 1600 GTL exclusively comes with a model-specific audio system 2.0 with satellite radio and sound profile.
In terms of electronic aids, the bikes incorporate - dynamic traction control, 3 riding modes (rain, road and dynamic), engine brake control, dynamic electronic suspension adjustment with automatic load levelling, hill start control, tyre pressure control, and reversing assistance.
Suspension & braking
Based on a cast aluminium bridge-type frame, the suspension system of the K 1600 GT includes BMW Motorrad Duolever; a central spring strut on the front and a cast aluminium single-sided swing arm with BMW Motorrad Paralever on the rear. The K 1600 GTL, on the contrary, gets a front central shock absorber with a helical spring and a rear central spring strut with coil spring offering optimum damping comfort and consistent handling.
