KEY TAKEAWAYS
When will Honda showcase its Lane Keep Assist feature prototype?
Though the Lane Keep Assist feature for motorcycles by Honda is still under the development phase, we are hoping to see a prototype at the 2022 EICMA in Milan. Are other motorcycle manufacturers also including adavanced features in motorcycles?
Yes. Yamaha is currently testing the Tracer 9 GT for the same Lane Keep Assist tech and Ducati has equipped the Multistrada V4 with an Adaptive Cruise Control system. What is Lane Keep Assist tech?
The lane-keep assist feature using radar and cameras keeps the vehicle in the lane. The camera scans the lines on the road thus helping the system ensure the car is always in the lane. If the car deviates from the path, the system via corresponding input brings it back to the lane.
This semi-autonomous tech might seem a bit fancy for the motorcycle world, however, apart from Honda there are other brands too working on including such systems in two-wheels. For instance, Yamaha is currently testing the Tracer 9 GT for the same tech and Ducati has equipped the Multistrada V4 with an Adaptive Cruise Control system.
Separating Honda from Yamaha and Ducati is the fact that it is planning and working on including such advanced tech on all motorcycle segments. Unlike the latter who have limited the inclusion to tourers.

As per reports, the said system will be installed on the motorcycle’s triple clamp with the damper rad replaced by an actuator. The latter not just acts as a motor, but with a magnetostrictive torque sensor that measures the input on the bars. Thus, enabling it to read the steering input and make adjustments accordingly.
The camera, on the other hand, will detect whether or not the motorcycle is drifting from the lane. If so, it will counter-steer the vehicle back into the lane.
The best part is that despite the complexity of the operation, the system is designed to disengage as soon as the motorcycle is back in the lane.
