Eclimo ES-11 full electric scooter with 100km range launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: In an effort to reduce city carbon build-up and encourage delivery riders to be safer and reduce their ‘forced’ riding time, all newly registered delivery riders should be using an electric scooter with a limited battery range like this just launched ES-11.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much does the new Eclimo ES-11 electric scooter cost?

The new Eclimo ES-11 electric scooter is priced at RM 14,000.
  • What powers the Eclimo ES-11?

The Eclimo ES11 is powered by a lithium-ion battery of 3,078WH capacity, weighs 50 kg, and has a battery life of 1,000 cycles and a charging voltage (input) of 110V/240V.
  • What is the range of Eclimo ES-11?

The riding range of the Eclimo ES-11 is about 100 km, based on an average speed of 50 kmph.
  • A Malaysian company, Eclimo Sdn Bhd has just launched an electric motorbike with a Nano-Structured Battery Monitoring System (BMS), known as the ES-11. The BMS can monitor battery health; send out alerts when the battery voltage drops; plus, it comes with a tracking and a geo–fencing system that can be controlled via a mobile app.

Charging the ES-11 needs no special wall socket or special charging station. It uses a convenient 3-pin plug socket charging system. This solves the problems that frequently accompany electric vehicles (EV): the lack of infrastructure and charging stations.

Weighing 155 kg, the ES11 is powered by a lithium-ion battery of 3,078WH capacity, weighs 50 kg, and has a battery life of 1,000 cycles and a charging voltage (input) of 110V/240V. The scooter has a top speed of 100 kmph with a climbing capacity of 20 percent and its riding range with a full charge is about 100 km, based on an average speed of 50 kmph. This means riders are ‘forced’ to rest while their scooters charge up for their continued work.

This scooter has been tested under various conditions on a commercial scale to ensure it is ready to handle the delivery of food, letters, parcels, groceries, pharmaceutical products and also be a great low-cost personal transport tool.

Eclimo Sdn Bhd Executive Director, Dato’ Dennis Chuah said: “The e-Motorbike market is witnessing a growing trend globally and we want to ride on that wave. This has revitalised our focus and commitment to green technology innovation and reducing carbon footprint.”

“As policymakers here are encouraging the adoption of e- vehicles, we believe that the ES-11 with its appealing features such as the ease of charging and energy-saving performance will hit a sweet spot and lead to a shift in mindset among consumers and businesses alike to transition to e-mobility vehicles.”

“To date, the ES-11 has generated a sales value of more than RM 18 million. In addition, every unit of an electric two-wheeler creates an average of three new jobs. Our company also has footprints in Thailand, and we are leveraging on that to expand the ES-11’s market regionally.”

The price for this ES-11 electric scooter is RM 14,000 and it is currently operating on a leasing business model as well as a subscription basis in the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor.

The nearest rival to the ES-11 will be the Honda BENLY e-scooter which has just been launched in Japan and with no news of arrival here in Malaysia. There is also the fully designed and produced in Singapore Scorpio X1 e-scooter which is estimated to cost about RM 40,000 when it arrives in Malaysia.

The Singapore-made X1 is larger than the Malaysian-made ES-11 and looks more like the Yamaha TMAX 560 or the Honda Forza 750. It has a range of 200 km as it carries a larger battery, but with the ES-11 costing just RM 14,000, a 100 km range looks very reasonable.

Having leased to KFC Holdings Malaysia Bhd and the Royal Malaysian Police prior to this, there are also ongoing negotiations with e-hailing services and plans to expand into the city e-mobility space, allowing people to rent the e-motorbike as a means of transport around the city.
