KUALA LUMPUR: The Italijet Dragster first appeared on the scene back in 1995, and it perfectly represents why Italian designs are loved so much. The scooter was polarising, quirky, and delivered high-performance. And guess what? It is all set to make a comeback. As a reminder, the modern-day Dragster made its debut late last year.

A Japanese news portal confirmed the bike’s launch in the local market, so we have a lot of information in hand. The Italijet Dragster is available in two engine options - 125cc and 200cc. Also, the customer can choose from three colour options. In Japan, the bike is imported by MV Agusta with the 125cc version costing JPY 6,38,000, and the 200cc option setting buyers back by JPY 6,89,500. When converted in Malaysian Ringgit, the two versions cost - RM 25,788 and RM 27,870, respectively. Worldwide sales of the new Dragster is expected to begin in the summer of 2020.

So, what’s on offer? Well, the bike gets an inside-out appearance, meaning that all the mechanical bits are showing with nothing is tucked away. As mentioned, the bike gets two motors - the 125cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit makes 14.9 PS and 12.5 Nm of torque. As for the 200cc unit, it generates 19.8 PS and 17 Nm of torque, thus making it powerful than the Yamaha R15.

Other mechanical bits are top-notch too, the bike features unconventional linkage-type front suspension along with a horizontally-mounted monoshock. There is a double-sided swingarm along with disc brakes at both ends, for that added stopping power. The bike rides on 14-inch wheels that are wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso tyres.

How great it all may sound, we must remember that it is highly unlikely that the new Dragster will ever make it to the Malaysian market anytime soon. So for now, we have to keep calm with what’s on offer in the market.
