KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Enfield bikes are often used as a blank canvas for one’s imagination to run wild. The Interceptor 650, in particular, is an old-school minimalistic, versatile bike that serves as the perfect avenue for custom bike builders. When Texas-based custom bike builders, Revival Cycles wanted a bike for one of their projects, they picked the Interceptor 650 before it was even officially unveiled at the EICMA show in 2018.

The team worked its magic on the bike, and the result was called the ‘Revival X Royal Enfield Desert Runner 650.’ The bike was built to take part in the off-road race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. And therefore, it had to be fully functional. So in its bike, the Revival Cycles included a pair of long-travel suspension. It also get Suzuki DR-Z front fork, but they have been tweaked to offer travel. The forks are paired to an 18-inch spoke wheel with brake and hub setup borrowed from the Suzuki DR-Z. The wheel hub is stock at the rear. Also, the bike uses a custom twin shock absorber with 203 mm of travel.

The tension in the chain varies due to the long-travel suspension, and to solve the issue, Revival Cycles used a custom-made roller chain tensioner. For better off-road performance, the wheels are wrapped with black pattern Michelin AC10 tyres.

A custom-made aluminium bash plate is used to cover the custom exhaust system. The instrument cluster is a fully digital unit, and the handlebars are made of aluminium. The footpegs are replaced with a Honda CRF450 motocross bike’s footpegs. Further supporting the offroad design theme is a rally-style scroll type navigation mounted on the handlebar. The stock-seat is replaced with a more comfortable custom-made ribbed unit. The LED headlamp and taillamp are customised too.

Revival Cycles plans to put their creations on sale. It would cost around $25,000 TO $30,000. The Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE can be yours for just $15,400, and you still have access money for accessories. But one can’t put a price on a custom-made goodie.
