BMW Motorrad unveils two new grand tourers, the R 18 B &R 18 Transcontinental

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Motorrad recently announced its plans to launch four new models in Malaysia, and now we hear the brand launched two new bikes in the North American market. Included in the list is the all-new 2022 BMW R 18 B and the BMW R 18 Transcontinental.

Both these motorcycles hail from the grand tourer segment, wherein the BMW R 18 B is a rider’s machine best suited for cruising and touring and the latter is more of a distance-eater.

Also, it is the base BMW R 18 model that has been taken as the base for the latest ‘Big Boxer’ variants. The model is fitted with equipment and features that not only add up to its long-distance travelling capabilities but also make it look aggressive.

Let’s now discuss the two new BMW Motorrad bikes, starting with the BMW R 18 Transcontinental. This one gets a high windshield, flaps, and deflector on the front fairing along with additional headlamps. It also gets engine protection bars and cases that support the riders travelling needs. Also on board is a 10.25-inch TFT colour display with four analogue round instruments, a Marshall sound system, heated seats, and much more.

The 2022 BMW R 18 R benefits from all the above features apart from a low windshield. It gets a slim seat, no top case, and a matte black metallic engine. Both the models come with Dynamic Cruise Control as standard.

Furthermore, the bikes’ mid-mounted footpeg position offers a more relaxed and active riding position that also calls for the best possible control over the motorcycle.

What powers the 2022 BMW R 18 B and BMW R 18 Transcontinental?

Both the new BMW grand tourer variants are powered by the powerful 1,802 cc flat-twin engine making a maximum power of 91 hp at 4,750 rpm along with a peak torque of 150 Nm at 2,000 rpm.

The 2022 BMW R 18 B and BMW R 18 Transcontinental will be first offered as ‘First Edition’ models with the standard classic black paint job with white stripes. As for the purple ones you see here, it’s part of the Original BMW Motorrad Accessories and is called Option 719 Galaxy Dust.
