BMW K1600 recalled over potential suspension failure
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Motorrad is recalling the K1600 in the North American market. Part of the call back is - BMW K1600 GT, K 1600 GTL, and K1600 B, from 2019-2020.
Issue?
As per BMW recall notice, the supplier’s link strut connecting the rear suspension with the frame may not be following the specification. Thus, resulting in a heat treatment ‘anomaly’.
Meaning, over time the setup may not have sufficient strength which could lead the rear end to collapse and contact the rear wheel.
In addition, the problem will also affect the motorcycle’s riding stability and control.
The total number of affected units?
As per reports, a total of 1625 units are affected by the issue and the problem is unlikely to be replicated. Also, BMW has changed its suppliers to avoid any such problem in the future.
Owners of the affected motorcycle are recommended to take their unit to an authorized BMW dealer where the rear link strut will be replaced for free.
BMW North America has issued a breakdown of the affected motorcycles that reads -
