Blueshark-brand electric scooters to be manufactured locally

KUALA LUMPUR: EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB), the automotive parts manufacturer, recently received a manufacturing license from the government to assemble and manufacture electric two-wheels locally. The selected location for the job is EPMB’s upcoming manufacturing facility located in Glenmarie, Shah Alam.

EPMB’s Executive Chairman, Hamidon Abdullah on receiving the go-ahead from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) said, “We expect to commence the construction of the manufacturing plant in early 2023 and target to complete it by Q3 2023.”

He added, “The manufacturing facility will not only be technologically-advanced but will also employ at least 80% of Malaysians in the workforce and train them via transfer of skills and technology,”

Prior to this, EPMB was in partnership with Sharkgulf Technologies Group Ltd, together the two assembled, manufactured, and distributed Blueshark e-bike in Malaysia and other ASEAN countries.

Here’s what we know about EPMB’s upcoming manufacturing plans -

• Around 50,000 electric two-wheelers would be manufactured annually to meet local demand
• EPMB would manufacture Blueshark badged e-bikes
• EPMB’s manufacturing plant construction would commence in early 2023 and finish by Q3 2023
• The manufacturing facility would employ at least 80 percent locals that will be trained by the manufacturer
