Benelli Dong electric scooter launched in Indonesia
KUALA LUMPUR: Alongside the new brands jumping into the lightweight electric scooters segment, some established auto giants are also trying their hands in the category. We have seen exciting electric scooter concepts coming from KTM, Husqvarna, Yamaha and now here we have a model from Benelli, called Dong. Made primarily for Asian markets, the Dong electric scooter has recently made its debut in the Indonesian market.
With an out-of-the-box design, the e-scooter appears as a compact model against the other e-scooters available in the global arena. The under-seat body of the scooter carries an interesting cylindrical shape that attracts the most. Adding to its unique look is an LED tail light bar on the lower side of the scooter, an LED headlight with integrated circular LED DRL, a funky LCD for the instrument panel, and a big grab rail at the rear. Benelli Dong's colour options include blue, white, and dark grey.
Size-wise, the Dong is 1670 mm long, 670 mm wide, 1025 tall, and has a wheelbase of 1235 mm. Even though the overall dimensions of the e-scooter are puny, the automaker managed to keep the floorboard long which adds to the rider’s convenience. The scooter tips the scales at 74 kg.
Powering this unique pint-sized s-cooter is a 1.2 kW electric motor that allows it to attain a top speed of 45 kmph. However, a 1.56-kWh lithium-ion removable battery pack onboard provides it a cruising range of 60 km on a single charge. Another interesting feature of the scooter is an artificial exhaust sound system; that uses speakers to make the sound of several internal combustion-engined bikes. This is something that we have seen on the Revolt bikes.
Coming to the Benelli Dong price, the automaker is offering the model in Indonesia at a starting price of IDR 36,800,000, which works out to be around RM 10,434 in local currency.
As we mentioned earlier, Benelli has developed this funky e-scooter for Asian markets only, which means that we can expect its arrival in Malaysia as well, sooner or later. However, Benelli Malaysia has not yet made any comment on this.
