Auto Expo 2020: Suzuki Katana centre-staged at the autoshow
KUALA LUMPUR: After making its global debut at the Intermot 2018, Suzuki Katana has been presented at the Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi. The premium Suzuki neo-retro bike is expected to launch in India by mid-2020 where it will challenge the likes of the Honda CB1000R, Yamaha MT-10, Ducati Monster 1200, BMW S 1000 R and the Kawasaki Z1000.
The premium offering by Suzuki is powered by a 999 cc inline-four engine taken from 2005-2008 GSX-R 1000 that’s capable of churning out a max power of 152 PS at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 107.9 Nm at 9,500 rpm, mated to a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. The bike gets electronics like three-mode traction control and a dual-channel ABS as standard.
For braking, the automaker has bestowed it with twin discs with Brembo radial calipers at the front and a single disc at the rear. The suspension duties on the bike are taken care of by a USD (upside down) front fork and a linked monoshock setup at the rear.
Though the bike’s design is inspired by 1980s Katana, its striking looks are capable of turning heads. On the features front, it gets an LCD instrument cluster and an all-LED lighting system for clearer visibility regardless of the weather conditions.
In India, it is likely to be priced around Rs 10-12 lakh (RM 57,976 - 69,573 approx).
