2024 Yamaha Y16ZR launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: During the recently held 3-day roadshow at The StarHill, KL, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor, introduced the all-new 2024 Y16ZR. Touted as the most advanced sports moped in Malaysia, the new Yamaha Y16ZR benefits from a few cosmetic tweaks, new bold colours, and an improved braking system.

Let’s know this upgraded Yamaha machine in more detail, starting with the price.

Price 

The 2024 Yamaha Y16ZR is priced at RM 11,398 (excluding road tax, insurance and registration). Included in the price is a 2-year or 20,000 km warranty against manufacturing defects and a disc lock worth RM 100.

Colours

Yamaha Malaysia offers the new Y16ZR in three striking colours - Violet Knight, Ocean Neon, and Mag Grey. 

Design and features

In terms of design, the moped looks more aggressive on the front thanks to the new fairing and new visor. The redesigned front panels also incorporate LED daytime running lights. As for better fit and aesthetics, the automaker has added rubber inserts next to the LCD instrument panel. Also part of the kit is an LED headlight, smart lock system, 12-volt charging socket, and 17-inch wheels shod with 90/80-17 front and 120/70-17 rear tyres. 

Engine

At the core of the new Yamaha Y16ZR lies the same tried and tested 155-cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which is tuned to generate 17.7 hp of maximum power at 9,500 rpm and 14.4 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed gearbox mated to an assist and slipper clutch system. 

Suspension and braking 

The suspension setup of the bike continues to have the same conventional telescopic forks at the front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear. 

However, the braking setup gains a new front-wheel anti-lock braking system which operates on a single hydraulic disc and a two-piston brake calliper. The rear wheel retains its existing configuration, including a single hydraulic disc and a single-piston calliper.

Upon introducing the 2024 Yamaha Y16ZR, Professor Dato’ Dr. Jim Khor Mun Wei, Group Managing Director of HLYM said, “This is the first time we are launching this highly anticipated model with the public and we are confident that the 2024 Yamaha Y16ZR not only provides the most sophisticated style and performance to complement the rider’s need but also the most advanced riding technologies in the premium MOPED category to enhance Yamaha riders’ riding experience, whether it is for their daily commute or the weekend travel.”

The all-new Yamaha Y16ZR will be available at all authorised Yamaha dealerships nationwide starting from the end of January 2024.
