2024 Yamaha Y16ZR 6MRO Limited Edition launched in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has recently rolled out the six millionth locally assembled Yamaha motorcycle, marking a significant milestone in its manufacturing journey. This commemorative model is a 2024 Yamaha Y16ZR 6MRO Limited Edition with “6MRO” standing for “6 Million Roll Out.”

The Y16ZR 6MRO is priced at RM 13,668 (excluding road tax, insurance, and registration), which is RM 2,270 dearer than the regular Y16ZR.

Well, the bike comes with unique styling touches and exclusive badges, setting it apart from the standard model.
To begin with, the Y16ZR 6MRO is Yamaha's first bike featuring the ‘Glow-in-the Dark’ emblem, positioned on the side. The motorcycle is wrapped in a special asymmetrical two-tone livery and “chameleon” UV-sensitive graphics which change colour under different lighting conditions.
Further, confirming the vehicle’s identity is a unique serial number and a commemorative “6MRO” emblem.
At the core of the special model lies the same tried and tested 155 cc SOHC VVA liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, tuned to deliver a maximum power of 17.7 hp at 9,500 rpm and a peak torque of 14.4 Nm at 8,000 rpm.
With each purchase of the limited edition Y16ZR also comes a Tekhne helmet, a Casio G-Shock, a metal ownership certificate plate, a display box, and a die-cast model.
Datuk Prof Dr. Jim Khor, Group Managing Director of Hong Leong Industries said, “Our fifth-million milestone was a proud achievement, reached in 46 months. Today, we celebrate our six-millionth, achieved in record-breaking time: only 37 months. This accomplishment marks the fastest million-unit production in Malaysia’s motorcycle industry history.”
Yamaha Space Y museum
To further commemorate this milestone, the company announced the opening of a Yamaha museum, called Space Y.
Recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records, Space Y is Malaysia’s first motorcycle museum. It spans 9,000 sq ft and aims to bring Yamaha’s storied heritage closer to its loyal customers and fans. It exhibits the brand’s history and racing achievements and features an Innovation Tunnel, a theatre, Interactive and Art Spaces, and a Space Y Gift Shop.
Located in Selangor, the Space Y museum is open to the public with free admission until 31 December 2024. The visiting hours -
- Monday to Friday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Alternate Saturdays - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are also honoured to be recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the home of Malaysia’s first motorcycle museum. This latest milestone is HLYM’s sixth Malaysia Book of Records recognition — a symbolic six MBORs for our six-millionth rollout,” added Khor.
