Say hello to the all-new 2022 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR

KUALA LUMPUR: Last week, Triumph dropped a short teaser video of the all-new 2022 Speed Triple 1200 RR, showing its bits and pieces. And, now it has unleashed the superbike in full with all specifications and price tag. Based on the Speed Triple 1200 RS, the new sporty cafe racer is powered by the brand’s new-age 1160-cc triple-cylinder mill and features a slew of electronic nannies. Let’s check out the details.

In terms of design, the beautiful machine features a front half-fairing and a single circular LED headlight with a twin-spoke central element in place of the earlier twin LED unit. It also gets plenty of carbon fibre elements surrounding the fuel tank, new side panels, and the front mudguard. A lovely single-sided swingarm and 17-inch cast aluminium alloy wheels are also included in the kit.

The bike also has new clip-on bars on the handlebar which is different from the RS; the controls are placed 135 mm lower and 50 mm forward. In addition, a tailored new footpeg position can also be noticed. While the vehicle’s saddle height remains the same at 830 mm, its aggressive riding posture seems to deliver a better corner-carving experience to the riders.

As for electronics and tech, the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR gets a fully coloured 5-inch TFT instrument cluster mated to the My Triumph connectivity system. The panel also has Android and iOS compatibility, turn-by-turn navigation, and GoPro control. Also part of the kit are five riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport, Rider, and Track), advanced wheelie control, cornering ABS, traction control, cruise control, and a fully keyless system.

Another significant update is Ohlins Smart EC2.0 semi-active suspension that according to the automaker sharpens the bike’s handling in all conditions.

Powering the 2022 Speed Triple 1200 RR is the ongoing 1,160-cc triple-cylinder mill that generates a maximum power output of 180 PS and a peak torque of 125 Nm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox available with an up-and-down quick shifter and slipper clutch.

The 2022 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR comes in two colour combinations with gold detailing - Red Hopper/Storm Grey and Crystal White/Storm Grey. The price starts at GBP 17,950 (RM 103,323).
