2020 Suzuki GSX-S150 Special Version breaks cover in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: While the Malaysian market does not have any Suzuki motorcycle in the 150-cc segment, the bikemaker offers GSX-R150 and GSX-S150 in the neighbouring countries. Talking specifically about the GSX-S150, which competes with Yamaha’s MT-15, has recently appeared in a new avatar in Thailand. 

Dubbed as GSX-S150 Special Version, the model features cosmetic changes in the form of new colours and body panels but continues to use the same platform and powertrain. The latest version of the naked roadster is available in three, dual-tone colour choices, including Yellow/Black, Black/Red, and Silver/Red.

Other than the new colours, the GSX-S150 Special Version gets a new headlamp cladding, radiator shroud, and a body-coloured under-cowl, which adds a beefier and sportier look to the model. With the Black/Red option, customers will also get sporty-looking red wheels. Suzuki also offers a slightly altered trim of the engine fairing and headlight cover as optional accessories. 

However, the special edition GSX-S150 borrows the same LED headlamp, LED tail lamp, and a multi-functional full LCD instrument cluster from the standard GSX-S150.

Apart from cosmetic upgrades, the underpinnings and engine of the motorcycle are the same. It is powered by a 147.3-cc liquid-cooled DOHC motor that churns out 18.6 PS of maximum power and 13.8 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. For the shock absorption, the hardware of the motorcycle comprises telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The braking setup houses disc brakes at both ends.

Well, we do not see the arrival of Suzuki GSX-S150 to Malaysia anytime soon. Suzuki’s Malaysia lineup already comprises more powerful warriors like the Suzuki Hayabusa, Katana, GSX S1000 F, GSX-S 1000, GSX-R 1000, GSX 750, V-Strom 650, and SV 650.
