2019 Yamaha Y15ZR - What’s new?

The Yamaha Y15ZR is a popular moped in Malaysia. So, when the 2019 spec model was displayed at this year’s round 1 of Cub Prix Championship, everyone got excited. However, back then Yamaha didn’t reveal the ‘Y Suku’ a.k.a Y15ZR price. And as promised by the company, the prices for the revised model were announced in the first week of April. What, however, shocked us was the reduction in the price that’s from RM 8,361 for the previous model to RM 8,168 for the new Y15ZR. This got us into thinking, are there any improvements or changes done or it’s just all the same with new color and graphics.

To our relief, the moped gets quite a few updates, and in this story, we’ll be covering all that and more. Following are the new features in the Yamaha Y15ZR -

New LED modern headlights

The 2019 model features a new headlight design that is both sporty and sophisticated at once. It consists of three parts in total - two low and one high each providing utmost clarity.

New LCD meter panel

The new Yamaha Y15ZR also features an LCD meter panel that features a new speedometer. This unit provides comprehensive riding information and is brighter too.

New front tyre

The front tyre is now wider than before, and this assures a more stable and comfortable ride. It now measures 70/90-17M/C at the front and 120/70-17M/C at the rear. This also calls for a wider front fender.

New graphics and decals

Adding a spark to the all-new Yamaha Y15ZR is the new decals and graphics design. The moped now looks ‘fast’ even standing still.

Revised dimensions

Going through Yamaha Y15ZR specifications, the moped reflects some dimensional changes as well. The bike’s height and length are increased by 20 mm and 15 mm, respectively. Thus, bringing the final measurement down to 1960 mm X 670 mm X 1080 mm (L X W X H). The wheelbase and ground clearance is 1290 mm and 135 mm, respectively. Also, it weighs 2 kg more than the older model.

These are the four major updates found in the 2019 Yamaha Y15ZR. This bike is available in four color options - Blazing Red, Dynamic Grey, Striking Cyan, and Storm Blue. Now, let’s move on to specs/features that have remained unchanged. Starting with its engine configuration, the Y15ZR like before is powered by a 150 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder SOHC engine that churns out a maximum power of 15.4 PS at 8500 rpm along with a peak torque of 13.8 Nm at 7000 rpm. The fuel tank capacity also remains the same at 4.2 litres.

The bike is now up for grabs at authorised Yamaha dealerships at RM 8,168. Also, the brand is offering free brake disc lock worth RM 100 with the purchase of Y15ZR.
