Yamaha MT-25 Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
Yamaha has recently launched the 2020 version of MT-25 in the Malaysian market with some good bit of designing genius. The current version of the motorcycle has a sportier look than the outgoing model. It is expected that this MT-25 will be a grand success for the Japanese in the Malaysian market, just like most bikes from Yamaha.
The Yamaha MT-25 borrows its design from the larger naked street siblings. Moreover, even the latest alien face LED headlamp, which makes it look more aggressive, looks reminiscent of the bigger bikes. It comes in two colours options - Grey (Ice Fluo) and Yamaha Blu. However, the motorcycle maker may add more options to the portfolio.

Yamaha MT-25 Design
The Yamaha MT-25 has the true traits of a naked streetfighter. Right from the first glimpse, the MT looks very timid with its light appearance and small wheelbase. However, get closer and you will love the ‘Dark Side of Japan’ theme, which instills a lot of edgy traits all around. However, nothing could overshadow the LED headlamp design to exude a sharp appeal.
To enhance the dark theme, there are many other parts that are designed to match the theme, like the blacked-out fender, muffler, and suspension. Apart from this, the tail lamps and indicators also get an LED touch.
The Yamaha MT-25 is loaded with features that could give any competitor a run for its money. The display console is fully-digital and the speedometer and tachometer are placed to improve visibility. Even the odometer and trip meters are digital. The size of the wide digital screen makes it even better for riders to take advantage of the barrage of the information offered. As for the suspension, the MT-25 gets premium USD (upside down) forks in the front and the swingarm also indicates no cost-cutting.
MT-25 Ride & Handling
The Yamaha MT-25 is a fun motorcycle to hop on and take on busy roads as well as on highways. Just the way you would expect from a Yamaha engine, the performance is linear, which means the power is not concentrated in the top-end only and you can pull off from 30 kmph in 4th gear without any lags.
The motorcycle is truly light and the same is reflected in the handling as well. It is very flickable in tight turns and busy traffic without breaking a sweat. The seating position is upright as the stance opens up to wide handlebars and center-set footpegs.
Even the 6-speed transmission is slick and there are no such issues you will face on the shifts, including no false neutrals. However, the seating for the pillion is a little off-set and looks similar to the YZF-R15. This means the split rear seat is positioned higher than normal. The seat is decently cushioned and has ample space.
Yamaha MT-25 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The new Yamaha MT-25 has a 249cc engine, twin-cylinder engine. Now, going by most of the competitors, a parallel-twin, quarter-litre engine would be a performance killer, and the motorcycle does not disappoint.
The engine produces a maximum power of 36 PS, along with a peak torque of 23.6 Nm. The engine rolls up high up to 12,000 rpm, which means the riders have quite a lot available at the top-end. The power is channeled to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.
MT-25 Braking & Safety
In terms of braking, there are disc brakes for both the wheels, the front rotor gets a two-piston unit. To add to the braking prowess further, Yamaha offers standard ABS for the MT-25. The ABS works pretty well in all road conditions and prevents the wheel from locking up.
The wide tires are made of a good compound, which makes them sticky and safe while on the corners or on slippery road conditions
Yamaha MT-25 Verdict
The latest version of the Yamaha MT-25 is one of the newest additions to the company’s lineup and falls under the MT-03. It was launched at a price of RM 21,500, which is completely justifiable for a bike of this class. The performance, design, and features make it a great buy for new as well as experienced buyers. Had the motorcycle come with a single-cylinder engine, it would be a perfect entry-level option.
