ZEEKR X and ZEEKR 009 now open for booking in Malaysia - Est pricing under RM180k & RM370k

KUALA LUMPUR:  After numerous sightings and teasers, ZEEKR has finally made its official entry into the Malaysian market. The company is now accepting bookings for its two all-electric models – the ZEEKR X compact SUV and the ultra-luxurious ZEEKR 009 MPV.

Operated under Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd, ZEEKR Malaysia is offering these models with indicative prices of RM180,000 and below for the ZEEKR X and RM370,000 and below for the ZEEKR 009. Bookings require a fee of RM2,000 for the ZEEKR X and RM4,000 for the ZEEKR 009.

ZEEKR X: The Volvo EX30 twin

Designed for the global market, the sleek ZEEKR X will come in two variants: Premium and Flagship AWD. The Flagship AWD model features a dual-motor setup delivering an impressive 422 hp, making it one of the most powerful electric SUVs in its class, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The Premium variant, on the other hand, offers a single rear motor producing 268 hp, reaching 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Both models are equipped with a 66kWh battery and support 150kW DC fast charging, which can charge the vehicle from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

The ZEEKR X is available in five exterior colours: Crystal White, Mist Grey, Grid Grey, Palace Beige, and Pine Green. Interior trim options include Charcoal Black and Stone Grey.

Safety kit for the ZEEKR X is good, as evidenced by the car's 5-star Euro NCAP and Green NCAP ratings. The ZEEKR X comes with an array of safety features, such as the Passenger Guard system, 7 airbags, a 360° camera, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centering Control (LCC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Automated Parking Assist (APA).

ZEEKR 009: Luxury MPV

The ZEEKR 009 aims to set new standards for luxury and performance in the MPV segment. Powered by high-performance dual motors delivering 603 hp and 693 Nm of torque, this all-wheel-drive vehicle can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

The ZEEKR 009 comes in two variants: a Luxury 7-seater and an Ultra Luxury 6-seater. It is equipped with a 116kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of 582 km and supporting 150kW DC charging for a 10% to 80% charge in 30 minutes.

Exterior colour options for the ZEEKR 009 include Phantom Black, Electric Blue, and Crystal White Pearl, while the interior comes in Black, Stone Grey & Polar White, and Midnight Blue & Polar White in soft Nappa leather.

The vehicle is equipped with advanced features, including a 10.25'' full HD LCD meter cluster, a 35.95'' AR head-up display, a 15.05'' OLED touchscreen infotainment system, a 17'' roof-mounted screen, and a 30-speaker YAMAHA surround sound system.

Comfort and convenience are key for this model, with features such as 12-way adjustable memory seats, massage functions, and an ultra-long electric slide rail for the second row.

The ZEEKR 009 also boasts a comprehensive suite of ADAS features, including Lane Centering Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Its intelligent four-wheel-drive system and double-wishbone multi-link suspension, complemented by air suspension with electromagnetic vibration-damping technology, should provide a smooth and controlled ride.

Quick comparison of the ZEEKR X and Volvo EX30

The ZEEKR X, with an estimated price of under RM180,000, makes it more affordable than the Volvo EX30, which ranges from RM188,888 to RM228,888 across its three variants.

In terms of powertrains, the ZEEKR X offers a Premium rear-wheel-drive model with 268 hp, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The Flagship AWD variant boasts 422 hp and reaches 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The Volvo EX30, on the other hand, offers the Plus and Ultra single-motor variants, also with 268 hp, but achieves a slightly quicker 0-100 km/h time of 5.3 seconds. The top-spec Ultra Twin Performance variant matches the ZEEKR X’s AWD power, with 422 hp and a faster 0-100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds.

In terms of battery capacity, the ZEEKR X according to the press release comes with a 66 kWh battery supporting 150 kW DC fast charging, which allows a 10-80% charge in 30 minutes. If the ZEEKR X release is correct, the Volvo EX30 offers a slightly larger 69 kWh battery and supports up to 175 kW DC charging, achieving a 10-80% charge in less than 30 minutes.

Is the ZEEKR X a better buy? We'll know more when it's launched but from what we can tell, perhaps it will be.
