Yema Auto launched Spica electric MPV in China

KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese automotive industry has a long history of replicating the vehicle designs of other automakers, and one of the examples is the Yema Spica. It is a minivan that has been on sale in the Chinese market since 2015 whose design appears to be reverse-engineered from the second-gen Toyota Alphard. Recently, Yema launched a fully electric version of the MPV alongside the combustion engine model.

The electric Spica features an electric motor that produces a maximum output of 94 PS and a peak torque of 180 Nm. The motor is mated to a 48-kWh lithium battery pack providing MPV a total cruising range of 350 km on a full charge, according to the NEDC measurement. The top speed of the MPV is rated at 120 kmph.

If we talk about the battery charging time, the company claims that it can be charged from 30% to 80% in 40 minutes, if charging via a fast charger.

As mentioned above, the exterior design of the Yema Spica is very similar to the Alphard. The new iteration carries a typical EV grille and a new pair of ultra-cool steel wheels. Dimensionally, it measures 4,580 in length, 1,730 mm in width, and 1,850 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm, these reveal that the Chinese minivan is much smaller than the Toyota MPV, which is 4,945 mm long.

Inside the cabin, the Spica EV features a plain and unrefined look with a single-DIN USB audio head-unit and manual air-conditioning as standard fitments. However, the top-spec version comes with an LCD infotainment screen, wood trimmings, rear-view camera, keyless entry/start, and electric sunroof.

The pricing of the seven-seater model starts at 109.900 yuan (RM RM 68,800) and goes all the way to 129.900 yuan (RM 81,280).

On the contrary, the Toyota Alphard is crafted to offer luxury to its consumers. It is a perfect blend of luxury, space, and practicality, which is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 mill generating 267 hp and 360 Nm of peak torque. Currently, it is priced at RM 405,625 in the Malaysian market.
