Will the Nissan Ariya be sold out when it arrives in Malaysia?
ETCM is planning to launch the Ariya in 2022.
Edaran Tan Chong Motor or ETCM has been and continues to be the brand guardian for the Nissan (formerly Datsun) automotive brand in Malaysia. ETCM started selling Datsun vehicles in Malaysia as ‘Tan Chong Motor’ even before Proton was being discussed and this family owned business made its fortune as Malaysia’s best selling auto brand for decades.
As far back as November 2013, ETCM entered the Malaysian electric vehicle segment with the launch of the first generation Nissan Leaf at RM169,000. With the backing from Nissan Japan, they pushed the electric car ‘education’ in Malaysia and even set up a company to install battery charging stations around the country.
It was a long and tedious process and by the time the second generation Nissan Leaf arrived in Malaysia in July 2019 at RM 188,000, ETCM was confident that sales would be good. Sadly, not.
Meanwhile, it took the premium EV manufacturers like Porsche and Tesla to ignite the electric vehicle interest in Malaysia and today, supply and delivery are better than expected.
This change in attitude gives ETCM more confidence to launch the Nissan Ariya electric SUV. All new from the ground up, the Nissan Ariya was first unveiled in July 2020 and despite computer chip supply issues it has been a fast selling vehicle for Nissan. With production in Japan back in full swing, the Ariya is slated for launch by ETCM in Malaysia later this year and the rumored selling price will be from RM 228,800.
The Ariya EV will be available in 4 variants. 2 variants will arrive in 2-wheel drive versions and the other 2 variants will be 4-wheel drive versions. The Ariya range will start with a 63 kWh battery pack and also a 87 kWh battery pack. Then there is the all wheel drive version called the Ariya e-4ORCE which will also carry either a 67 kWh and 87 kWh battery pack.
The Nissan Ariya will be equipped with the Nissan ProPILOT Assist 2.0 system which is a hands-on assistance system that helps drivers stay safe on the road. It also works with Nissan Safety Shield 360 which is the complete active safety features from Nissan.
The Ariya driver and passengers will get a spacious cabin for 5 adults with plenty of room and features like Amazon Alexa to simplify and organize their lives. There will be a 12.3 instrument monitor and also a 12.3 center display screen.
The Nissan Ariya driving distance starts from 445 km (WTLP ratings) with 215 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. This is already better figures over the popular Nissan Leaf EV.
Before you rush out to book your new electric vehicle in the coming months, be patient and wait for this sleek looking Nissan EV to arrive and then make a decision.
