Will the new Nissan Serena e-POWER arrive in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: The Nissan Serena MPV has been enjoying brisk sales in Malaysia for a number of reasons. The biggest reason has been the missing rivals from the compact MPV segment in Malaysia.
Yes, there is only one brand new compact MPV on sale and it is the Nissan Serena which initially arrived in 2014 and then a facelift arrived in May 2018.
Its rival, Mazda stopped selling the Biante MPV, Toyota does not sell the Voxy MPV in Malaysia and Honda has not introduced the Spada MPV to the region. So, Nissan had the segment all to themselves.
The Nissan Serena e-POWER is both fun and comfortable to drive. The 100 percent electric motor drive system treats drivers to powerful acceleration, and the vehicle’s e-POWER Drive mode adds the convenience of being able to speed up or decelerate by using only the accelerator pedal.
With optimized engine management and noise reduction measures throughout the vehicle body, the Nissan Serena e-POWER transcends its class in terms of quietness.
Combined with the model’s aerodynamic body, the e-POWER system includes a small petrol-powered engine that charges the battery ensuring exceptional fuel economy. The Nissan Serena e-POWER is rated at 26.2 kmpl (according to Japan’s JC08 test).
Then in September 2019, Nissan launched the latest version of their e-Power electrified MPV in Singapore. The new 7-seater Nissan Serena e-POWER debuts Nissan's first e-POWER electrified powertrain in Singapore.
Coupled with smart technologies and family-friendly features, the Nissan Serena e-POWER delivers an award-winning experience with a 100 percent electric drive that allows the driver and passengers to better enjoy every ride.
Following the new Nissan LEAF, this was the second electrified vehicle in Nissan's line-up to be launched in Singapore, which will help meet Nissan's commitment to fully electrify its passenger car line-up in Singapore by 2022.
Benefits of e-POWER
- It delivers a responsive drive with smooth acceleration like an EV.
- The e-POWER system allows you to enjoy all the benefits of an EV.
- e-POWER delivers massive torque almost instantly, which enhances drive response and results in smooth acceleration. Also, the system operates very quietly, much like a full EV.
- Because e-POWER can drive the engine at its most efficient point, its fuel efficiency is comparable to that of leading conventional hybrids, especially during around-the-town commutes.
So, the question now is when will it be launched in Malaysia as the current Serena is already 8 years in the Malaysian market. Despite a facelift, it is starting to look rather tired against parallel imported mid-sized MPVs like the VOXY and Spada being brought in by private importers and sold for between RM 120,000 and RM 145,000.
