The second last week of January 2023 seems to be a crucial one for both local and international automotive markets. While the Malaysian market saw two car launches - Hyundai Palisade and BMW M2, along with two car booking openings - Peugeot Landtrek and Kia Sorento. The international auto market got the soon-launch confirmation of the Mazda CX-90 and Hyundai Kona. Similarly, a lot happened in the international market like the debut of the VW ID.7 and more.

2023 Hyundai Palisade facelift launch
Hyundai Malaysia has launched the all-new Palisade facelift in the local market. The three-row SUV is offered in two powertrain configurations including - a 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a naturally-aspirated 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine. The car is offered in two trim levels across four variants namely - Executive 2.2L Diesel 8-seater, Executive 3.8L Petrol eight-seater, Luxury 2.2L Diesel seven-seater, and Luxury 3.8L Petrol seven-seater.
28 units of Proton X70 SUV handed to KPDN
National automaker Proton recently announced that it has handed over 28 units of the X70 SUV to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). The car would be put to use by the ministry for enforcement activities.
Proton gets its 2nd photovoltaic system supplier
To expand solar power adoption across its network of dealers and vendors, Proton has appointed its second solar photovoltaic system supplier, Industrial Laboratories Sdn Bhd.
RM 170K raised by over 4k participants in Toyota OutRun 2023
The Toyota OutRun 2023 took place on Sunday at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, and drew over 4,300 participants. In addition to the 5km and 10km races, the event was packed with several fun activities like concrete, race village, and plant workshops.
Over 9k Isuzu D-Max sold in 2022
The year 2022 ended on a perfect note for Isuzu Malaysia, as the automaker delivered a total of 9,211 units. The Peninsular Malaysia region accounted for 55% of the total sales and the 1.9-litre performance variant made 79% of the 2022 sales. The D-Max X-Terrain variant made inroads with 877 units.
Malaysia gets 5 units of Toyota Mirai FCEV
UMW Toyota Motor has handed over 5 units of the Toyota Mirai - four to SEDC Energy and one to the Premier of Sarawak. The 2nd gen Mirai was introduced in Japan at the Tokyo Motor Show 2019 ditching the clumsy styling.
2023 Peugeot Landtrek open for booking
The fully-imported Peugeot Landtrek is now open for booking in Malaysia. With an estimated price tag of RM 123,000, the Landtrek is powered by a 1.9-liter turbo diesel engine generating a maximum power of 152 hp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The drive is sent to all-four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission with a four-wheel drive system with a rear differential lock.
The car packs - a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, a dual-zone climate control system, leather upholstery, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, ‘lion fangs’ DRLs, 18-inch wheels, roof rails, and much more.
All-new Kia Sorento previewed in Malaysia
Kia Malaysia has confirmed to launch the new Sorento locally in 2023. The seven-seater SUV was recently previewed on our sores and is now open for booking. With an estimated price tag of RM 220,000- RM 255,000, the SUV will be offered in three trim options, all of which will be locally assembled at the Inokom assembly plant.
First 100 units of BYD Atto 3 delivered
In a ‘Grand Delivery’ Ceremony, BYD delivered 100 units of the Atto 3 in Malaysia. The EV was launched locally in December 2022 and is available in two trim options - the Standard Range and Extended Range; priced at RM 149,800 and RM 167,800, respectively.
2023 BMW M2 launch
BMW Malaysia's lineup now includes the all-new M2. The car is now available for online pre-booking and is available in two trim options. While the regular version is priced at RM 598,800, the one with Pro Package retails for RM 642,800. Based on the 2 Series Coupe, the car is powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six turbo engine making 460 PS at 6,250 rpm along with a peak torque of 550 Nm from 2,650 to 5,870 rpm.

Mazda CX-90 debut confirmed for 31st Jan
Japanese automaker Mazda recently teased its upcoming SUV, the CX-90, and has confirmed the car making its official debut by the end of this month. The upcoming car will feature an all-new 3.3-liter inline-six turbocharged e-Skyactiv mild-hybrid mill with power sent to the wheels via a rear-biased all-wheel drive system. The said powertrain is said to generate a max power of 35 hp along with a peak torque of 500 Nm. A plug-in hybrid variant is confirmed for the future.
2023 Mercedes-Benz CLA introduced
Mercedes-Benz has given the CLA a mid-lifecycle update and like before the car is available in two body styles - a shooting brake and a four-door coupe. The updates include several design revisions like a new diamond pin-style mesh pattern grille, new DRL signature unis, a segmented bottom half, slightly tweaked tail lights, and 17-/19-inch wheels. The car also gets - a new steering wheel and three new display designs for the dashboard screen.
In-car football live streaming for BMW
BMW has become the first automaker to offer Bundesliga German football league content in its car in a pilot test. The user would need to activate the Personal eSIM to access the Bundesliga in-car application functions. Users will be able to enjoy the football content via its BMW Curved Display, as seen on the iX and facelifted 3 Series.
New Hyundai Kona powertrain details revealed
The all-new Hyundai Kona will be offered in three engine options for the Korean Market. The car would be available with two ICE mills and a hybrid option. The former includes - a 198 hp/265 Nm 1.6-litre T-GDi engine and 149PS/179.5Nm 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle engine. The HEV powertrain, on the other hand, consists of a 1.6-liter GDi mill and an e-motor, combined output rests at 141 hp and 265 Nm.
Chery sold over 1,000k cars in 2022
Chery delivered a total of 1,232,727 units globally in 2022, representing a 28.2% hike compared to last year. The figure includes 36.6% (451,336 units) of export sales, making Chery the top Chinese passenger car exporter for the 20th year in a row.
