The second week of July was not like the first one, however, a lot of important stuff happened during the seven day period; both the national and international auto industry. While Tesla opened ordering books for the Tesla Model Y In the local market. Honda launched the WR-V in Malaysia. Other noticeable events included the confirmation of the BYD Dolphin EV launch date, the appointment of 14 BYD dealers, the introduction of the 2023 Harley-Davidson Fast Johnnie lineup, and much more. The international auto market saw the unveiling of the 2023 Mazda CX-5 and Maxus Mifa 9.

2023 Honda WR-V launched
The all-new Honda WR-V has finally made its way to the local roads. The WR-V (Winsome Runabout Vehicle) is a B-segment SUV locally assembled at the brand’s Pegoh, Melaka facility. It is being offered in four variants - S, E, V, and RS. All the variants of the Malaysia-spec WR-V are powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated DOHC engine making a maximum power output of 121 PS at 6,600 rpm and a peak torque of 145 Nm at 2,300 rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT automatic gearbox.
2023 Honda WR-V gets Modulo kit & accessories packages
It was only yesterday (13th July) that Honda Malaysia launched the all-new WR-V and now the car gets its very own Modulo kit & accessories packages. The former consists of a series of under spoilers ( front, rear, and sides of the car), as well as an exhaust pipe finisher. The dress-up component pack is available for RM3,175. The Urban 1.0 package, priced at RM954, adds on door visors, a quarter window decal, rear step garnish, and a rear panel lining cover. The RM 1,116 worth of Urban package consists of all the items in the Urban set along with one item, a front step garnish. The Utility accessory pack called Utility consists of door handle protection covers, a rear cargo tray and trunk organizer, a car cover, and reflective safety film; costs RM 1,052. The Protection package costs RM3,007 and brings along ultra glass body and window coating as well as a set of wheel lock nuts.
BYD Dolphin EV launching on July 28
BYD is all set to bring its second EV (after the Atto 3) to Malaysian shores. First previewed in the country late last year, the Dolphin electric hatchback is slated to launch on July 28, 2023. Like the Atto 3, it will be based on BYD e-Platform 3.0 architecture which is exclusively designed for EVs and promises improved performance in terms of safety and range at low temperatures and overall driving experience. BYD offers the Dolphin in two configurations globally viz. Standard Range and Extended Range. However, which of these configurations will come to Malaysia is not known at the moment.
Tesla Model Y bookings open in Malaysia
The American EV giant, Tesla has started accepting bookings for the electric SUV, Model Y, via tesla.com/en_my/modely / tesla.com/en_my .The EV will be offered in three variants - Model Y (Rear-wheel drive), Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance; priced at RM 199,000, RM 246,000, and RM 288,000 respectively. Included in the price is a 4-year or 80,000 km manufacturing warranty and a 8-year or 160,000 km Battery & Drive Unit Warranty. Tesla Model Y color choices include - Pearl White, Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, and Red Multi-Coat color.

All-new LEGO Technic Yamaha MT-10 SP introduced
All-new LEGO Technic Yamaha MT-10 SP is out in the open. Set to go on sale, the set is priced at RM 999 in Malaysia and allows fans to recreate the essence of the iconic naked sport bike right at their fingertips. It pays homage to the brand’s most powerful hyper-naked bike. The model’s stripped-back styling previews its torquey 4-cylinder engine. 2023 GAC GS3 Emzoom coming to Malaysia
GAC’s new SUV, the GS3 Emzoom has made its global debut and soon it will grace the Malaysian market. The car was unveiled in its home country, China, earlier this year and recently made its global debut with its official launch in the Philippines. It is offered in three variant options, namely GS, GB, and GL, priced at PHP 998,000 (RM84,026), PHP 1,098,000 (RM92,445), and PHP 1,198,000 (RM100,865) respectively. All the variants are powered by a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline-four petrol engine generating a max power output of 177 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 270 Nm from 1,400 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The drive is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed wet-dual-clutch transmission.
2023 Harley-Davidson Fast Johnnie lineup in Malaysia
Harley-Davidson has introduced the limited-edition Fast Johnnie versions of its three models - Low Rider ST, Street Glide ST, and Road Glide ST. Part of the brand’s Enthusiastic Motorcycle Collection, these special bikes will have a limited run of 2,000 units (for each model) globally. In terms of mechanicals, all three bikes continue to feature the brand’s largest production engine, the Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-Twin, and model-specific suspension settings. Enthusiasts can check out this all-new striking collection at all authorized Harley-Davidson dealerships across Malaysia starting from July 15, 2023.
Nissan Puchong showroom upgraded
Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), the official distributor of Nissan cars in Malaysia has upgraded the Puchong showroom bringing it in line with the company's latest version. 2023 Mazda CX-5 up for grabs in Vietnam
The CX-5 is one of the best-selling Mazda cars globally that underwent a facelift back in 2021. While we are still waiting for the updated model to arrive locally, our neighbor market Vietnam has already received it. The all-new 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in three variants - 2.0 Deluxe, 2.0 Luxury, and 2.0 Premium. The top-spec version gets two new equipment packages - Sport (Sporty and powerful) and Exclusive (Luxury and Class). The price begins at VND 749 million (RM 143,351). All the variants are powered by a 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G naturally-aspirated petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 156 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm. That power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Maxus Mifa 9 launched in Singapore
The all-new Maxus Mifa 9 EV is offered in a single trim in the island state and is priced at SGD S$282,999 (approximately equal to RM 982k). Based on the Maxus Intelligent Flexible Architecture, the Mifa 9 measures 5,270 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,840 mm in height. The wheelbase is measured at 3,200 mm. These dimensions put it in direct competition with the Toyota Alphard and Hyundai Staria. Powering the Singapore-spec Mifa 9 is a front-mounted electric motor that kicks out a maximum power of 245 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm.
Info on upcoming next-gen Triton pickup revealed
Thanks to the recently published ‘Engineering Teaser’ video by Mitsubishi we have to ourselves a new set of information about the upcoming Triton. For instance, will feature an all-new ladder frame chassis along with a new ‘clean diesel’ power plant, a double wishbone suspension up front, paired with leaf springs for the rear, engine will boast “improved environmental performance by significantly reducing friction loss while achieving higher output”, and will showcase a completely redesigned exterior and interior.
