Volvo EX90 coming soon with laser sensors and "driver understanding system”

A recent glimpse of the same can be seen in the form of the teaser of the brand’s upcoming electric car, the EX90.

Touted as the brand’s safest model to date, the upcoming Volvo EX90 will have the next-generation laser sensors and software tech along with new systems like a "driver understanding system” and Ride Pilot.Set to make its debut on November 9, 2022, the EX90 is a production version of Concept Recharge (pictured below) unveiled last year in July. The said concept was introduced as the manifesto for the automaker's next-gen all-electric cars with the mantra of 'less but better' at its core.
In a recent media presentation, the company’s CEO Jim Rowan confirmed that the upcoming Volvo EX90 will be the brand’s safest model to date. It will be equipped with next-generation laser sensors (including roof-mounted lidar sensors, eight cameras, 5 radar sensors, and 16 ultrasonic sensors) and software to help reduce the impact of crashes that result in death or serious injury by 20%.
The EV will also have a new safety tech called the "driver understanding system.” Its real-time interior sensing system can help the car recognize when the driver is not in a suitable condition for driving and thus take precautions to prevent accidents. The advanced safety kit will also have a hands-free highway driving assist called Ride Pilot.
The EV underpins the new SPA2 platform, which also supports internal-combustion engines in a hybrid layout.
After making its debut in November, the EV is expected to hit the roads in 2023. The production for the US and other markets will be held at the brand’s South Carolina plant, where the automaker currently produces the S60 sedan.
The all-new Volvo EX90 electric SUV will help Volvo achieve its target of selling 6,00,000 EVs annually from 2025.

In the local market, Volvo introduced the all-electric 2022 XC40 Recharge back in March with an announcement to launch one EV every year for the next 5 years. Well, it is now geared for the C40 Recharge launch that may be followed by the EX90 by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
